JOB TITLE: Custodian
JOB SUMMARY: Perform cleaning duties to keep the facility clean and in orderly condition. Cleans corridors, library, classrooms, cafeterias, conference rooms, restrooms, etc.
REPORTS TO: Head Custodian, Building Administrator
DUTIES:
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Previous experience custodial work.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must have general knowledge of facility maintenance. Ability to cooperate in a team effort with other employees.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

DUTIES:
- Performs cleaning duties around assigned school buildings which include areas such as classrooms, corridors, foyers, restrooms, cafeterias, offices, lounges, conference rooms, library, etc.; sweeps, vacuums, mops floors; cleans chewing gum from floors and removes from carpet.
- Cleans restrooms and locker rooms, replaces paper and soap products in restrooms, cleans mirrors, scrubs sinks and toilets, etc.; washes walls as needed.
- Cleans classrooms; empties trash cans and pencil sharpeners; cleans chalk trays; dusts computers; cleans windows and blinds; washes windows and mirrors in classrooms.
- Dusts lockers, chairs, and other school equipment and furniture as needed.
- Sweep sidewalks as needed; pick up litter around school grounds.
- May be required to lock/unlock doors and/or gates; may be required to lift, move and/or rearrange furniture, desks, tables, etc.
- Change light bulbs, assist in changing decorations in hallways; may be required to water plants.
- Provide assistance as needed to school faculty and staff.
- Take instructions - attend to the work assignment instructions or orders of the supervisor.
- Ensures that co-workers and subordinates follow safety rules and regulations.
- Follows all safety procedures in order to provide a safe environment for students and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
