Starting hiring salary - $19.77 to $20.96 hourly
DEFINITION
Perform a full range of custodial duties related to the care, cleaning, and minor maintenance of City buildings, facilities, and equipment. This position must work well independently and with teams, while providing excellent, respectful customer service and human relations skills, which support the City of Brighton's mission and values.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and direct supervision from the lead custodian or as assigned. The Custodian does not supervise others.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Cleans, sanitizes and deodorizes locker room and restroom facilities and fixtures including sinks, urinals and toilets; cleans and sanitizes showers as assigned; maintains fixtures and replenishes supplies in restrooms.
Sweeps, vacuums, mops, waxes, strips and polishes floors using a variety of chemicals, cleansers and equipment; vacuums and shampoos carpets and upholstered furniture.
Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, mirrors, walls and ceilings.
Empties, cleans and sanitizes waste receptacles.
Collects and disposes of trash both inside and outside of buildings.
Cleans the tops of windows, door frames, light fixtures, blinds, and other high areas.
Moves and arranges furniture and athletic equipment, and set-up Community and other rooms for recreational functions, meetings, and activities.
Secures facilities after working hours.
Performs preventive maintenance and maintain records.
Maintains and cleans custodial equipment for proper working condition.
Sweeps and shovels snow from sidewalks and steps.
Inventories and prepares orders for custodial supplies; attends training and safety seminars.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Working knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and cleaning of buildings
Safe rules and work practices.
Ability to:
Perform a full range of custodial work.
Clean and care for assigned areas and equipment.
Use a variety of custodial equipment and materials.
Read, interpret, and apply cleaning agents for varied surfaces and conditions.
Learn to operate and maintain custodial equipment.
Comprehend maintenance frequency and work schedules.
Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Speak in a clear and understandable manner and talk effectively with supervisor, co-workers, employees, and the public.
Understand and practice safe work methods.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Work with minimal supervision; be reliable, thorough, punctual, and accurate.
Work independently or as part of a team.
Work weekends, holidays, evenings, overtime, and emergencies as required.
Adapt to changes in working conditions, which may include but are not limited to; changes in hours of duty, building assignments, days off, weather conditions, machinery noise, extreme temperatures, and dust.
Work with cleaning fluids, chemicals, or similar solutions using normal and specialized protective equipment.
Operate a motor vehicle and drive during inclement weather.
EDUCATION AN D EXPERIENCE
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a full range of custodial work. Work experience with public and commercial buildings preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sufficient vision to be able to discriminate between colors, size, ant type of objects, be able to read printed material in a variety of lighting conditions both close and distant. Must have sufficient manual dexterity to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment. Must have sufficient strength, flexibility, and agility to work while crouching, kneeling, bending, stooping, or reaching overhead for long periods of time. Must be able to stand on a variety of surfaces for long periods of time. Must be able to climb a variety of things such as stairs and ladders and be able to work at heights up to 20 feet. Must be able to perform heavy manual labor. Must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina, and flexibility to lift and carry or move a variety of objects up to 50 pounds. Must have sufficient hearing to be able to hear and discriminate differing sounds in a variety of situations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Colorado driver's license with a safe driving record.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six (6) months of hire.
