Assume responsibilities of the campus/department custodian as directed by the campus principal and/or designee. Follow and perform routine cleaning schedules and maintenance procedures to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of building operations and grounds. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as, district policies, procedures and regulations.

Essential Functions
  1. Check in with campus administrator/designee upon arrival; provide head custodian with job assignment verification as assigned.
  2. Follow a cleaning schedule to include cleaning and sanitizing of floors, carpets, instructional boards, wastebaskets, windows, window sills, furniture, equipment and restrooms. Move furniture or equipment within building, assist with lunchroom set up and facilities set up for special events as directed by campus administration, head custodian or assistant head custodian.
  3. Perform minor maintenance to include painting, grease trap cleaning, mounting classroom instructional boards, and projection equipment. Monitor and maintain cleanliness of boiler room and report malfunctions to supervisor. Identify and correct unsafe conditions and report any major repair needs that are not correctable to supervisor.
  4. Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment. Request additional supplies as needed.
  5. Regulate heat, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water and electricity based on district guidelines.
  6. Assist with the cleaning and refinishing of floors, moving of furniture, books, inventory and set up of facilities for school events.
  7. Follow established procedures for opening, securing, monitoring and safeguarding facilities.
  8. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to operate tools and equipment. Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash and chemicals.
  9. Assemble, disassemble, repair and refurbish furniture as needed.
  10. Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Make routine decisions under supervision of campus administration, head custodian or assistant head custodian in accordance with established priorities and procedures; perform routine functions.
  2. Maintain accurate time sheets and have them approved by principal or designee. Demonstrate punctuality, reliability, integrity, cooperation and efficient use of time in the performance of assigned duties.
  3. Participate in professional development activates/trainings, as required by the district/department.
  4. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support the goals of the district/department and follow district policies and procedures.
  5. Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) preferred. Ability to read, write, understand and speak English; ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions; ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures; knowledge of minor repair techniques and building maintenance; ability to safely operate cleaning/maintenance equipment and lift heavy equipment. Valid Texas or New Mexico driver's license to be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; or may possess a valid Texas/New Mexico identification card but will not be insurable by the district's auto liability insurance carrier; subject to the district drug and alcohol testing policy and regulations.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds frequently, 20-50 pounds occasionally, more than 50 pounds infrequently and with assistance; ability to climb ladders unassisted up to 8 feet unassisted and higher with assistance; work under all weather conditions; extended periods of walking, standing, bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting; ability to work with potentially hazardous materials in a safe manner and safely perform required duties in potentially hazardous environments. Must be adaptable to work a shift schedule and/or hours other than regularly assigned; must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies.
