Kingston Intermediate School is seeking a Full-time, Custodian Lead
Job Goal: To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of operating
excellence so that full educational use of them may be made at all times.

Performance Responsibilities:
Special abilities: Able to tolerate heights. Knowledge of equipment operation. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions appropriate to custodial activities.
Physical requirements: The position requires the delivery of a full range of custodial
services to the public. Several hours a day will be spent walking, standing, sitting, and
climbing whenever necessary. Activities include frequent physical exertion in body
movement such as reaching, bending, and twisting. This position also requires frequent pulling and pushing of materials. There is frequent use of hand and power tools. Occasionally, crawling may be necessary. The position requires lifting of objects of 50 pounds on a frequent basis and over 50 pounds occasionally.
Environmental conditions: The occupant is required on occasion to work outdoors in
extreme weather conditions such as rain, snow, and hot/cold extremes. He/she is also
exposed to gasoline and/or diesel fumes, cleaning chemicals, and high noise levels. The occupant is expected to have foul weather gear, rubber gloves, steel toe protection when necessary.
As a full time employee, a successful candidate is entitled to benefits and paid time off per the CBA.
The salary range is $25.93 - $28.82 per hour depending on experience.

Supervision:
- Reports to Principal and Director of Facilities.
- Trains newly hired employees.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Responsible for opening the school building each school day.
- Leads and performs an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair. This will include a schedule or checklist created with the building Principal, including a summer cleaning program.
- Assumes responsibility for the daily/nightly security of the buildings.
- Operates tractors, light trucks, and related equipment (for equipment that does not require a specific license or certification). If a certificate or training is required by the school district for any equipment or maintainance, with prior approval, the district will reimburse the employee.
- Applies understanding of small tools to maintain and do minor repairs.
- Applies knowledge of maintenance of grounds with specific application as it pertains to grass, trees, shrubs, etc.
- Applies knowledge of waxes, cleaners, and specific mixing applications.
- Applies knowledge of maintenance areas such as roofs, boilers, plumbing, electrical, hardware, paint, etc.
- Communicates with outside contractors on needed maintenance work.
- Schedules (with the administration) other custodians and allocates specific projects and assignments.
- Trains other custodians to mix cleaning materials and develop proper cleaning procedures.
- Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions from the principal far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodians in their duties.
- Regulates heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity with support of an HVAC company.
- Estimates cost of minor repair projects in terms of labor, material, and overhead.
- Mow and weed whack grounds, and other necessary facilities for other school activities.
- Mentor/ model for custodial staff when needed.
- In conjunction with administration, lead and participate in snow removal.
- Acts as an emergency contact person and responds to such emergency situations.
- Performs all duties contained in the custodian job descriptions.
- Other related custodian duties may be assigned by Administration.
