Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 17,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 - 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Night Custodian is responsible to the Head Custodian and in turn to the Principal of the Building. In the absence of the Principal, custodians will be under the supervision of the Assistant Director or his designee.

General Duties:
To perform other job duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or his designee.

The following specific duties are typical but not necessarily all of the duties involved in this position. Employees currently employed in these positions will, when necessary, be provided training to enable them to do work assigned for which they feel they are not qualified. These positions are temporary/part-time and have evening work hours with work shifts starting at 2:15pm or later.

Specific Duties:
  1. Clean all assigned classrooms, washrooms, corridors, and etc. Sweep all hallways and mop.
  2. Secure building on leaving - turn on alarm.
  3. Turn out lights except night lights.
  4. Report any needed repairs to Head Custodian
  5. Check boiler and heat several times during heating season to make sure they are running.
  6. Empty waste paper and trash into dumpster
  7. Spot mop areas as needed.
  8. Clean drinking fountains
  9. Other duties as assigned by Principal.
Classroom Cleaning Duties:
  1. Clean by mopping or sweeping the entire floor area. Move furniture if possible; clean under all moveable equipment, and cleaning corners.
  2. Clean all sinks, drain boards and drinking fountains.
  3. Dust furniture, window sills, open shelves, cabinet tops, etc. Do this before cleaning floor.
  4. Arrange furniture after cleaning.
  5. Adjust shades evenly through out your area.
  6. Secure windows and lock doors when finished.
Washroom Duties:
  1. Mop washrooms floors daily.
  2. Empty trash cans and wastebaskets.
  3. Clean toilet bowls, urinals and toilets daily.
  4. Clean all mirrors daily.
  5. Remove graffiti.
  6. Clean moldings, tops of stalls, window sills, etc.
  7. At end of day, be sure windows are locked, lights off and doors locked.
  8. Fill all soap dispensers, toilet paper holders and paper towel holders.
Weekly Duties:
  1. Level shades in all classrooms and offices.
  2. Clean all black boards, chalk boards and white boards.
  3. Dust window sills in classrooms and hand rails on stairways.
  4. Clean inside glass, spot clean as needed daily.

Qualifications:
  1. Must be in good health and able to perform all jobs assigned.
  2. Must work in a safe manner with hand tools.
  3. Be able to understand written and oral instructions.
  4. Must be able to work harmoniously with others.
  5. Must be able to lift 50 lbs at least 4ft from ground.
  6. Be able to work 30 hours per week, which is the max hours per week.
  7. Be able to work Monday through Friday.
  8. Must be able to start work shift as early as 2:15 pm and as late as 3:45 pm; depending on the building you are assigned to work.

Education: College degree preferred. Specialized trade certifications and licenses will be taken into consideration.
