JOB TITLE: Custodian

HOURS/MONTHS: Part-Time/ 190 days per school-year

SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule; Class C

JOB SUMMARY

The job of "Custodian" is done for the purpose/s of maintaining an attractive, sanitary and safe facility; providing adequate arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalent.

Required licenses and certifications: Tuberculosis Screening, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance, CPR, Valid Drivers License and proof of insurance.

DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings and events.
  • Maintains a neat, clean, hygienic and insect free facility
  • Cleans facilities (i.e., offices, grounds, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
  • Conducts safety inspection (e.g., gas, emergency exits, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of the staff and students.
  • Delivers variety of equipment (e.g. supplies, mail, packages, furniture, etc.) for the purpose of distributing the materials to the appropriate parties.
  • Maintains assigned equipment (e.g. waxer, vacuum, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability in operating condition.
  • Performs grounds maintenance (e.g. cutting, watering, trimming, etc.) for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition.
  • Repairs furniture and equipment for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
  • Performs minor repairs and replacements.
  • Secures facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, loss and liability and ensuring safety at work site.
  • Directs others, (e.g. summer workers, Youth Employee workers) for the purpose of assigning and monitoring work.
  • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items as needed to properly maintain facilities.
  • Operates following equipment: Standard, heavy-duty industrial cleaning, mowing, blowing, digging, cutting and trimming equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Skills to use English in both written and verbal form; equipment operation in a proper and safe manner; to apply first aid; use intervention techniques for emergency situations; apply problem solving techniques; records maintenance.
  • Knowledge of math at a level to add, subtract, multiply and divide including fractions and percents; of language at a level to read safety rules, instructions, procedures, etc.; to reason at a level to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions in written, and/or oral form.
  • Abilities to deal-with people; make judgments and decisions: perform repetitive or short-cycle work; perform a variety of duties involving frequent changes of tasks, aptitudes, techniques, procedures, etc.
  • Significant physical abilities include walking for prolonged periods, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping, reaching/handling, near/far visual acuity/depth perception.
