Custodian (2nd Shift)

Job Purpose and Focus

To provide staff and students a safe, attractive, clean and efficient place to learn and develop and insure that building equipment and grounds are properly maintained. The employee shall devote his/her entire time to the care of the school property within the assigned. The employee shall take every precaution for the protection of the property. The employee shall serve as an advisor to the Supervisor of Operations on matters pertaining and limited to, safety, maintenance of the districts buildings, grounds and equipment. Job tasks may differ depending on the season.

Essential Qualifications and Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Excellent personal hygiene
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Basic attributes for all custodial positions: self-motivated, dependable, a positive attitude towards people and pride in the cleanliness and overall operation of the building assigned.
  • Knowledge of the operation of cleaning equipment and use of cleaning supplies.
  • Knowledge of the proper operation of powered and non-powered grounds equipment and basic grounds equipment maintenance skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form
  • Knowledge of and adherence to all district requirements and Board of Education policies
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Essential Functions and Representative Duties
  • Work with standard custodial chemicals and finishes for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting
  • Perform scheduled full cleaning assignments
  • Dust mop floors and dust rooms
  • Clean sinks, urinals and stools
  • Wash classroom windows and doors
  • Replenish and cleans soap and paper dispensers
  • Wash chalkboards, desks, chairs, walls, tables, and other room surfaces and furnishings
  • Clean and wash lockers
  • Vacuum areas as needed with various vacuum cleaners, including a backpack vacuum
  • Perform all other light housekeeping chores
  • Maintain floors including floor finishing and floor machine operation
  • Remove trash and re-lines receptacles
  • Change light bulbs
  • Assist in summer building clean up as directed by the Supervisor of Operations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
