Job Requirements : This role requires routine manual labor associated with the daily cleaning of school buildings and performance of various duties requiring physical strength.
  • Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License
  • Drive vehicles to assigned work sites
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
  • Abilities:
    • to perform manual tasks requiring moderate physical strength
    • to follow simple oral and written instructions in the conduct of the job
    • to operate mechanical cleaning equipment
    • to establish and maintain working relations with supervisors, teachers, administrators, and students
    • sufficient hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity to perform assigned tasks

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability, physical demands and working conditions required of this position.
  • Demonstrate support for the Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123's Strategic Plan
  • Uphold the established Board of Education policies, regulations, and administrative procedures
  • Establish and maintain professional competence
  • Participate in meetings and perform other responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee in accordance with the Board of Education
  • Ability to sit/stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job
A detailed description of duties and responsibilities can be found below:
  • Safe and Secure Building
    • Open the building in the morning, unlocking inside and outside entrance doors, and turning on lights as requested
  • Daily Cleaning
    • Sweep, mop and vacuum hallways, stairs, classrooms, and office space
    • Clean up spills in hallways and/or classrooms which occur during shift
    • Clean door/window glass at main entrance of building
    • Maintain cleanliness of restrooms and stairwells throughout shift
    • Replenish supplies of soap and paper towels in all appropriate areas
  • Cafeteria Cleaning
    • Keep trash cans emptied and clean
    • Spot mop spills during lunch hours
    • Dust mop/wet mop at the end of lunch
    • When applicable, break down and/or set up cafeteria
  • Exterior Duties
    • Clean walkways and entrance areas to building
    • Snow removal from walkways, etc.
    • Flag maintenance
  • Trash Removal
    • Pick up trash inside and outside of the school building
    • Empty and reline trash cans from all areas of the building
  • Other Duties as Assigned by Supervisor
    • May enter work orders for any maintenance work into the computer
    • May follow up on work order status
    • May complete work orders as assigned
    • May complete supply orders and fax to appropriate department
    • Replace burnt out light bulbs when possible
    • Keep assigned custodial office/closet neat and organized
    • Report any security issues to your Principal or the Director of Buildings and Grounds
    • Keep equipment clean and report any repairs needed to supervisor or maintenance
    • Set up and break down areas for special events
Terms of Employment: Temporary Status for a Defined Period of Time

Daily Rate: $105.00 per day
  • Long-term Service Assignments may determine salary adjustment

Evaluation

Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Director of Building and Grounds in accordance with the Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
