The School of Medicine at UC San Francisco seeks an outstanding individual to serve as the Vice Dean for UCSF Regional Campus at Fresno. This position will require strong leadership and organizational skills, as well as a deep understanding of academic policies and procedures. Must also have:

- Demonstrated effectiveness as a leader of faculty, staff, and learners.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
The SOM Vice Dean of UCSF Regional Campus at Fresno will be serving as the Dean's main representative. The Vice Dean will ensure that UCSF Fresno is an excellent site for faculty providing clinical care; the teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows; and, for research (primarily clinical, translational and population health). To accomplish these activities the Vice Dean will collaborate with the Dean, the leadership of clinical affiliates, the Department Chairs and Chiefs of Service at UCSF Fresno, and Vice Deans in San Francisco.
The Vice Dean role is 80-100% effort as part of a full-time faculty position and is required to be on-site in Fresno. Up to 20% effort may be negotiated for clinical work within the candidate's clinical department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for establishing and continuously improving the partnership required to fulfill the academic mission, including but not limited to managing, implementing, and monitoring the Affiliation Agreements with key partners including but not limited to Community Health Systems, Central California Faculty Medical Group, Fresno VA, Family HealthCare Network and Fresno State. Specifically, the Vice Dean will work with the Assistant Deans to:
- Prepare, negotiate, and administer the final contract budgets.
- Ensure the UCSF Fresno Graduate Medical Education (GME) and Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) programs adhere to the Affiliation Agreements and function in compliance with all accreditation standards.
- Maintain regular meetings with the major UME and GME affiliate partners (CHS, VACCHCS, CCFMG and FHCN) and with future affiliates.
- Identify and evaluate new partner sites.
- Ensure that all Assistant Deans align and integrate their work with the respective UCSF Medical Education Associate Deans.
- Lead the Dean's Office at UCSF Fresno, which includes approximately seventy staff and is responsible for operations such as risk management, IT, and facilities.
- In collaboration with the UCSF Department Chairs, recruit, select and provide ongoing performance evaluations of Service Chiefs in their roles in ensuring the quality of the educational experiences for students and preparation of faculty and residents for their teaching roles.
- Oversee the design and implement a comprehensive onboarding and continuing educational program to optimize faculty, resident, and fellow development in support of high-quality medical education.
- Be accountable for review and continuous improvement of metrics that address student, trainee and faculty satisfaction and the quality of educational programs.
- Provide ongoing communication within and external to UCSF Fresno regarding key issues in medical education.
- Serve as liaison for other professional students, including Pharmacy students.
- Set strategic vision for the Research Enterprise. Provide oversight and direction of the research programs at UCSF Fresno, seeking opportunity to build institutional capacity with appropriate NIH funding and philanthropy. Identify opportunities to conduct collaborative research with UC Merced.
- Create communication strategy that includes regular meetings with Service Chiefs, faculty, and staff to ensure ongoing alignment with strategic vision and UCSF Academic mission.
- Serve as a key leader on the SJV Prime Plus program with the goal of developing a new medical school in the Central Valley in the coming decade.
An MD or equivalent degree and a faculty rank of associate or full professor required.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5. The minimum base salary range for this position is $139,500 - $411,500. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
For positions that are 50% effort or less:
See Table 2 for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $107,300 - $228,600.
