POSITION: Technician, Welding (Aerospace)
LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.
STATUS: Contract to Hire, Hourly Non-Exempt
JOB SUMMARY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist with set-up and installation of welding equipment
- Performs weld preparation, manual TIG welding and in-process inspection on various commercial and military aerospace turbine components by following written procedures and established practices
- Documents weld wire material traceability, fixture(s), etc. as directed by written procedures and established practices
- Assist with setting up welding parameters, selecting consumable materials, and preparing components for new welding process trials together with the aerospace engineering staff
- Assist with the designs and fabrication of welding fixtures, chill blocks, and purge boxes as required
- Reporting of non-conformances by generating NCRs in the quality management system
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment and tools as required
- Maintains a clean and orderly work area
- Follows Environmental Health and Safety regulations while working in a fast-paced environment
- Other duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Certified in welding (TIG & MIG) or equivalent years of experience.
- Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix
Skills/Experience
- 3+ years of experience with TIG welding
- 3+ years of experience in a production or maintenance environment
- 1+ years of experience with welding of Ni-base or Ni-Cr alloys
- Experienced in carrying out visual inspections of welds
- Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing processes
Physical Requirements
- Stooping/Crouching. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
- Kneeling. Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
- Crawling. Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
- Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time
- Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work area to another.
- Pushing & Pulling
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
- Grasping. Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.
- The worker is subject to noise. There may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout raise their voice in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- Capable of wearing required PPEs for specific tasks performed, such as respirators, Tyvek suit, gloves, face shield, etc.
