Job Summary

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Technician with experience identifying root causes of quality issues. In this role, you will inspect machined workpieces and assemblies at assembly, inspection or machining stations to ensure conformance to specifications by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities
  • Selects and utilizes standard measurement tools to ensure quality of welds on various materials including stainless steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and others as required.
  • Offers design for inspectability input on weldment designs.
  • Performs pressure vessel and structural inspections of weld quality and/or manages contractor weld inspections in accordance with AWS and ASME standards including visual testing, penetrant testing, and radiography
  • Perform visual inspection of non-destructive testing performed by others.
  • Review the performance of inspections completed by subconsultants/others when needed.
  • Creates new weld procedure specifications as required to promote high-quality builds.
  • Identifies engineering and design GD&T issues and errors creating ambiguity in the manufacturing and inspection process, including interpretation issues on weld symbols and required dimensions.
  • Works with manufacturing and quality to identify root causes and apply process improvement.
  • Communicates quality issues or concerns to engineering, manufacturing and inspection teams
  • Writes reports documenting inspections, non-conformances, contractor work activities as well as Operating Experience
  • Helps others around them to exceed the expectations of their job.
  • Performs witnessing of weld qualifications as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Previous experience with weld testing methods such as (Visual Testing (VT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Radiographic Testing (RT), Ultrasonic Testing (UT)).
  • Strong background with quality standards for inspection
  • Proficiency in the use of weld inspection tools including; weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
  • Ability to understand and interpret all drawing criteria, GD&T requirements and tolerances as applied to the engineering drawing and drawing notes.
  • Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues
  • Ability to work with highly collaborative team
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge
  • Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others
  • Ability to track quality data on welds and organize in various software systems
Physical Conditions

  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions

  • Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment or machinery

  • Repetitive assembly operations of manufacturing test fixtures and test setups in collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams

Safety and PPE

  • Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
  • Wearing proper PPE, to include face mask, face shields, gloves, safety shoes
Certification
  • Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification

  • Occasionally requires non-standard work-week hours
  • Occasionally requires working 2nd shift, beginning at 4:30pm local time
  • Occasionally requires extended hours to support launch and critical project timelines
