Job Description
POSITION TITLE: Sports Coach - Elementary/Middle Schools
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coach Sports teams
HOURS: hours per week/7-9-week program /School Year
CLASSIFICATION: Part Time/Non-Exempt, Temp/Seasonal Position
REPORTS TO: Project Lead, Sports / Area Director
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide the necessary skills, support and advice for your team to be successful against opposing teams in asports season.
- Model good sportsmanship and enforce sportsmanlike behavior among the players at all times.
- Complete thorough practice plans for all athletes.
- Oversee and/or direct daily sport practices, sometimes up to 20 students.
- Follow directions of Staff Sports Coach and Athletic Program Coordinator in regard to policies and procedures.
- Participate fully in all activities at assigned site.
- Actively participate in all required staff development workshops, trainings, and academy.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of our youth at all times.
- Provide guidance and role modeling to club athletes and help members resolve problems and conflicts.
- Responsible for Game day preparation of designated areas when home games are scheduled.
- Supervision of Athletes during all games.
- Game Day coaching.
REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS REQUIRED
- Good verbal and communication skills.
- Completion and participation in Coaches & Referee Academy
- Ability to motivate youth and manage behavioral problems.
- Strong sports background in one or more of the competitive sports offered
- Experience working with youth in sports related activities
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills
- Mandatory CPR and First Aid certification required before hire
- Negative TB test results (immunization record)
- Cleared drug test prior to hire
- Cleared Background Check & Live Scan Fingerprints
- Work Permit Turned into District Office (If required)
- Sexual harassment training (provided by Boys & Girls Clubs of Whittier) mandatory
- Mandated Reporter training (provided by BGCW) mandatory
