Job Description
DEFINITION
Keep score at adult softball games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and official games on Saturdays for a variety of youth sports. Greet coaches, obtain team line-ups, start and end games on time, record information throughout games, and help teach youth participants while officiating.
This is a seasonal position from January to mid-November with varying shifts on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6: 00 pm-10:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am-2:00 pm. Attendance at various training days prior to the start of each sport are also required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives supervision from the Recreation Coordinator for Sports and the Recreation Supervisor for Sports. This position does not supervise others.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT/ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure the particular sport's rules are followed.
Listens to concerns, answers questions and addresses coaches, players and parents in a calm, fair and professional manner.
Immediately reports problems, inappropriate situations or behaviors to Site Supervisor.
Receives and carries out instructions.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance. Secures a substitute if unable to cover scheduled shift and notifies Sport Coordinator of schedule substitutions prior to the change.
Assures that the site is kept neat and clean throughout the day; maintains supplies/equipment
Attends referee/scorekeeping trainings where techniques and specific rules are taught for each sport; attends staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Multiple sports such as softball, basketball, soccer, flag football and volleyball.
Basic rules for each sport.
ABILITY TO
Work with children ages 6 years to 12 years old.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 15 years of age. Must pass a background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have sufficient strength, agility, stamina and flexibility to move or carry up to 50 pounds, stand, crouch, kneel, bend and stoop while assisting children and adults for extended periods of time. The candidate must have adequate hearing and vision in order to discriminate between different sounds, objects, people and colors at near and far distances.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must pass a background check.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
