Summary:

Under the supervision of the Sports Performance Supervisor, the primary role of the Assistant Sports Performance Coach is to facilitate individualized safe and highly-effective strength and conditioning training programs in collaboration with assigned partner institutions, Athletic Directors, and coaches specific to the training goals of each school and their needs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

- In pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or other related field.

- Experience in Olympic lifting techniques with ability to teach and oversee safe and effective practice of student athletes.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association.

- Ability to work collaboratively with schools, athletic directors, coaches, athletes and medical providers to facilitate the creation and maintenance of an outstanding program.

- Ability to effectively communicate with student athletes in a positive and motivational manner.

- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

- Excellent presentation skills.

- Competent in Microsoft Office applications, including but not limited to Word and Excel.

- Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the day and to/from multiple locations.

- Flexible work schedule including some weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology related field or business.

- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA) or equivalent certification.

- Certified Level 1 coach from USA Weightlifting (USAW level 1).

- At least one year of experience in coaching at any level.

Must have good body mechanics and strength to allow demonstration of proper lifting and running techniques.

Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Engage and collaborate with assigned schools, athletic directors, and coaches interested in the implementation of sports performance programming.

2. Proactively communicate with all essential coaching staff.

3. Maintain strong relationships with partner schools, athletic directors, colleagues, coaches and athletes.

4. Supervise the implementation of safe exercise technique and assigned programming to improve individual and team athletic parameters.

5. Collaborate and actively seek guidance/support from the Sports Performance Supervisor and other partner departments as may be needed.

6. Facilitate testing and retesting procedures on sites to determine efficacy of exercise programming and determine modifications.

7. Upon assessment completion, communicate results with the Sports Performance Supervisor necessary to critically and analytically adapt programming moving forward.

8. Maintain comprehensive and consistent record keeping of maxes, times, body weight, fat mass, fat free mass, muscle mass, and other parameters set by the Sports Performance Coordinator in an effort to track progressions.

9. Teach proper strength/conditioning techniques for athletes in applicable areas including but not limited to the following;

    1. Sprinting/running
    2. Change of direction/agility
    3. Jumping and landing mechanics
    4. Weight training
    5. Resistance training
    6. Stretching/flexibility

10. Maintain an attitude and effort level that is conducive with an engaging, competitive, supportive, motivational, and inclusive environment fostering athletic excellence and development.

11. Collaborate with other North Oaks departments and staff to seamlessly integrate all aspects of the program (e.g. other sports performance staff, athletic trainers, therapists, and sports nutrition) into a comprehensive plan tailored to assigned schools.

12. At all times act ethically, respectfully and professionally.

13. Actively promote North Oaks and the program in the community.

14. Continuously re-assess the program looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and outcomes.

15. Stay abreast and pursues education on developments and advances in strength and conditioning training.

16. Maintain professional growth and development through education opportunities and affiliations.

17. Follow North Oaks Health System's compliance programs and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.

18. Perform all other duties as assigned.
