Job Description
Title: Sports Instructor
Hours: Part-time, Non-exempt
Department: Athletics
Reports to: Athletic Director
Salary: $17 hr to $18 hr
The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, working conditions, and athletic/social recreation responsibilities of the Athletics Program Assistant.
ESSENTIONAL FUNCTIONS:
The Sports Instructor is responsible for assisting in the delivery of a broad range of athletic programs. Primary functions include but are not limited to the assistance of planning, developing, implementing, and supervising athletic programs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assist in programs and activities that support youth, family, and adult development outcomes
· Implement day-to-day program activities in accordance with established organizational goals and mission under the guidance of the Athletic Director
· Teach fundamentals and enhance basic skills
· Provide close supervision of all activities
· Ensure members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area
· Demonstrate leadership and guidance to assure conduct, safety, and development
· Develop youths’ understanding and practice of good sportsmanship and teamwork through competition and direct instruction
· Create an atmosphere in which all participants can have fun, are safe and learn the importance of good principled athletics
· Assist in identifying and modifying instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs
· Proper care and storage of sports equipment
· Ensure program areas are safe, well-ventilated, and well-lit; and that equipment is maintained in good working condition
· Assist in proper record keeping and reporting of activities and events conducted, daily attendance figures, notable achievements, and any problems/issues
· May consult with parents/members regarding member issues
· May be required to assist in program areas outside of normal responsibilities
· Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
Requirements:MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
· Education/Experience: Experience implementing sports activities based on the development needs of youth, families, and adult programs, or educational equivalent.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE:
- Passion for working with youth
- Prior coaching and officiating experience/education preferred
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics
- CPR and First Aid certifications required (may obtain within 60 days of start date)
- Basic knowledge of modern office equipment
- Strong advocacy for the Club, emphasizing the positive environment for youth and adults
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Moving about from location to location or point to point to perform tasks of the job; coordination of multiple projects; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 50 lbs.; as well as climb, stoop, and/or kneel, reach, talk, communicate, and see. Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. Irregular hours depending on the season; outdoor and indoor work
