Description

Part Time Sports Coordinator

Pay: $22+ per hour based on education and experience

JOB FUNCTION:

This position is engaged in planning, implementing, coordinating, and supervising recreation programs and manages multiple sports programs, sports rentals, concessions, volunteer coaches, sports officials, and Hyland Hills' parks and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan, organize and implement recreation programs by overseeing a variety of sports and recreation programs, ordering supplies and collecting registrations.

2. Assists in recruiting, training, supervising, directing, and evaluating seasonal staff, instructors, volunteers, umpires, officials, and participants.

3. Maintains supplies, equipment, and materials in support of sports programs and advises necessary staff in advance of program equipment and supply needs.

4. Work independently and be responsible for overseeing activities at designated locations such as parks, school facilities, baseball/softball fields and other public facilities. Includes setting up and take down at facilities and areas for special events. Work includes weekends, holidays, and evenings.

5. Prioritize job tasks and complete them within specified time frames meeting established deadlines.

6. Oversee registrations and prepare rosters, assign coaches and practice space, books activity space, and prepare routine and complex program plans and requirements well in advance.

7. Monitors the day-to-day operations of sports programs including making site visits, handling, and resolving complaints and ensuring that programs have required materials and supplies.

8. Formulates and organizes program plans and schedules for seasonal and/or year-round activities.

9. Enforces District policies, procedures and rules for staff, instructors, volunteers, and contracted facility renters as well as enforcement of safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes and building codes.

10. Works to achieve professional development goals, which will facilitate the successful completion of departmental objectives that will contribute to the Hyland Hills mission statement.

11. Maintains scheduling software and website for Sports division.

12. Learn the Rec Trac registration and reservation system/process and be able to assist guests with field reservations, activity registrations, transfers, inquiries, etc.

13. Assist with managing facility youth/adult programs as directed by the Recreation Supervisor.

14. Performs other such duties as may be assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

1. Skill in the use of common computer programs and office machines.

2. Successful practices and knowledge of principles, rules and procedures of organized recreational programs, sports programs, principles of supervision, organization, administration, and maintenance.

3. Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff members and/or supervisor and have working knowledge of appropriate technology in order to best serve the public and manage programs.

4. Ability to understand, follow and complete oral and/or written directions.

5. The ability to know how to provide a variety of revenue-based programs in the areas of youth and adult sports leagues, special events and instructional classes.

6. Ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participants and the public; exercise independent judgement in the application of program and game rules and procedures; plan, promote, organize, and coordinate sports programs and events; and be a team player in the organization.

7. Ability to learn and use Rec-Trac.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

1. Work is performed in a sports setting and includes gymnasiums, ballfields, sports courts, etc. May have exposure to adverse weather conditions related to outdoor recreation events.

2. Work involves the operation of computer equipment and programs, and sports equipment.

3. Work may require standing or walking for extended periods of time with exposure to diverse environmental situations and adverse weather conditions and in a safe and effective manner and be available for emergency calls and situations.

4. May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing and data entry.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma required and desired bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following related fields or discipline: Park & Recreation Administration or Sports Management.

One to three years of experience working in municipal parks and recreation departments or in a business or field of expertise directly related to providing parks and recreation service. Must possess a current valid Colorado Driver's License and obtain First Aid/CPR Certification upon hire.
