POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Youth Sports Instructor is a year-round program serving youth 18 months - 10 years of age. Programs may include basketball, soccer, football, tee-ball, and baseball among others. The instructor is responsible for the development and implementation of youth sports curriculum and program sessions. The Youth Sports Instructor facilitates relationship-based, quality programs, sports leagues and instructional classes that deeply engage members in the YMCA.

Willingness to act as a substitute in other sports based on availability

- You'll support the commitment of the YMCA to child abuse prevention by:
- Report any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members or guests to your supervisor.
- Follow all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs, including those related to the monitoring and supervision of children.
- Report any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to your supervisor.
- Complete all child abuse prevention training as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Organizes, plans and delivers an inclusive curriculum of youth sports programs, clinics and classes for all members and participants at all ability levels.
- Instructs sports-related rules and procedures for the following sports: basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and volleyball. Some sports require more expert knowledge (basketball, baseball, and volleyball).
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with both student athletes and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures regarding but not limited to emergency and safety. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organizes and maintains needed class supplies and equipment. Reports damaged equipment promptly.
- Responsible for preparation of sports fields, gyms and courts, including quality checks to ensure safe facilities are provided to YMCA members and guests.
- Ensures a strong focus on character development and diversity, equity and inclusion throughout programming.
- Reports damaged equipment or safety hazards promptly.
- Performs any other functions necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Rock River Valley.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- Background in athletics and sports preferred.
- Experience working with youth preferred.
- Ability to oversee, motivate and inspire youth.
- Ability to display passion, enthusiasm and support for the mission and values of the YMCA.
- CPR, AED and First Aid Certifications required within 90 days.
- Praesidium Academy trainings.
- Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.
- Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
Basketball Qualifications:
- Background in basketball with organized play preferred.
- Ability to organize, plan and deliver an inclusive curriculum of fundamentals for basketball participants at all levels.
Baseball Qualifications:
- Background in baseball with organized play preferred.
- Ability to organize, plan and deliver an inclusive curriculum of fundamentals for baseball participants at all levels.
Volleyball Qualifications:
- Background in volleyball with organized play preferred.
- Ability to organize, plan and deliver an inclusive curriculum of fundamentals for volleyball participants at all levels.
