About The FORT
Located within the 91-acre Snyder Park and adjacent to Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport, The FORT is a premier destination blending world-class pickleball facilities with exceptional social and culinary experiences. A public/private partnership with the City of Fort Lauderdale, The FORT embodies the vibrant South Florida lifestyle.
The centerpiece of The FORT is its state-of-the-art pickleball club, featuring 43 professional courts, including the world's first pickleball stadium, 14 weatherproof covered courts, a pro shop, locker rooms, and a fitness and recovery center. As the official headquarters and training center of the Association of Pickleball Players (APP), The FORT is committed to advancing the sport and supporting its players at every level.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee and manage all financial operations at The FORT. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will play a critical role in supporting the organization’s business objectives by managing accounting operations, developing robust financial and HR processes, and delivering actionable insights to leadership. This position is essential to aligning financial and operational strategies, ensuring compliance, and supporting the long-term growth of The FORT.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Management & Reporting:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Develop and present financial analysis and reports to the executive team to support data-driven decisions.
- Strategic Collaboration with CFO:
- Work closely with the CFO to meet organization-wide objectives and align financial goals with broader business strategies.
- Assist in the development and execution of financial policies, procedures, and systems to optimize performance.
- Support long-term planning initiatives, including financial modeling and strategic investment planning.
- Accounting and HR Process Development:
- Design, implement, and improve accounting and financial systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with the CFO to create and refine HR systems, including payroll, benefits administration, and compliance.
- Provide oversight for HR-related financial matters, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Compliance & Controls:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and financial policies.
- Manage external audits and prepare required documentation.
- Stay updated on industry regulations and financial best practices.
- Process Improvement & Technology:
- Evaluate and enhance financial and HR processes, leveraging technology to streamline operations.
- Utilize financial and HR software tools to improve reporting and operational efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in financial management with a proven track record of success.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CMA certification.
- Experience in the sports, hospitality, or entertainment industries.
- Strong experience with QuickBooks Online, ADP Workforce Now, Toast and other financial systems.
- Experience developing and optimizing HR and financial systems in dynamic, growth-oriented organizations.
