JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB SUMMARY: Officiates and/or keeps score for various games in the adult recreational sports program. Some weekends may be required.
Average hours per week: 5-15
Per Game Rate: $23.41 - $27.83 DOE
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
This class is distinguished from Youth Sport Official in that the latter officiates and/or keeps score in the youth recreation program.
SUPERVISION
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Employees in this classification work under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator for Recreational Sports. Instructs and supervises athletes at practices and games.

- Provides competent leadership to ensure games run smoothly without issue.
- Has responsibility and authority to keep the official time of games.
- May keep score for the games immediately before and/or after own team games.
- Knows and understands the correct method of enforcing rules and keeping score; maintains the scoreboard.
- Supervises the players before, during, and immediately after practices and games.
- Serves as a positive role model for the players, parents, officials, and fellow coaches by following all rules and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
- Provides a safe and enjoyable environment for all players.
- Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Rules and regulations of assigned sport program.
- Appropriate sportsmanship behavior.
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, including diverse internal and external customers.

- Evaluate situations, make decisions, and give oral instructions.

TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.;

Experience with recreation, preferably with sports.
or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
POSSESSION AND MAINTENANCE OF:
- A valid California class C driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
