POSITION SUMMARY: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Nutritionist - Per Diem - Women's Wellness - Hempstead. In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for counseling and evaluation of special diets and unusually difficult nutritional problems. Provide a copy for a special diet, implement therapeutic prescriptions and design appropriate dietary regimens for individual patients after acquiring doctor's orders. Evaluate patient's compliance with prescribed therapeutic diet and suggest appropriate action to be taken. Performs all other duties as it relates to specialty.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actions demonstrate an understanding of individual's role and how it relates to the delivery of care/services in the organization. Participates in Agency Compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Completes scheduling in an organized, efficient manner. Supports and complies with all practice and hospital policies and procedures. Identifies patient satisfaction/dissatisfaction with plan of care. If patient expresses dissatisfaction, implements conflict resolution skills and escalates issues through the proper chain of command. Writes legibly. Documents benefit information on approved form, which is distributed to appropriate Home Care staff.
- Member of 'Speakers' Bureau' for External Affairs Department of WUH and participates in community events as requested. Prepares and delivers appropriate information and educational material.
- Precepts dietetic interns in nutrition support/GI rotation. Teaches basic principles and provides appropriate articles/references. Coordinates observation of GI procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assesses for potential hazards in patient's environment. Encourages maintenance of the patient's medication, supplies, and equipment in an efficient, orderly manner. Reports environmental or equipment safety hazards to patient and family, with suggestions for improvement.
- Performs all key functions of nutrition care according to department policies. Monitors and evaluates lab data. Acts as liaison between physicians and patients. Keeps inventory of program supplements and educational material. Charts and reviews patient progress. Flexible to accommodate additional initiatives as per program needs. Provides nutrition education and counseling in individual settings. Works cooperatively with the Director and other team members to plan and implement effective, up-to-date nutritional education. Assesses nutritional and learning needs and provides medical nutrition therapy to patients. Participates in the continuing education of nurses, dietitians, medical house staff, and other health care professionals. Provides follow-up consultations as needed. Demonstrates an understanding of the diversity of nutritional treatment strategies and provides appropriate instruction based on assessment and knowledge of growth and development. Performs related duties as designated by the director and/or manager.
- Maintains patient medical record according to compliance policy and procedure outlines. Maintains written records on inpatient and outpatient medical charts. Sends out follow-up letters to referring physician or patient as needed. Reviews chart and interviews patient to obtain appropriate information.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition and/or Public Health. Master's Degree in Nutrition or related field. Current NYS Dietitian License. Current NYS Dietitian Registration (CDR). 1-2 years Nutrition in Related Specialty Experience. Excellent Communication skills (both oral & written), interpersonal and organization skills. Basic Computer Knowledge including Microsoft Word. REQUIRED LICENSES: Dietetics-Nutrition-NYS, Registered Dietitian.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 3-5 years in Hospital/Private Practice Setting.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $37.15 - $37.15 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
