Job Description
Manual Machinist operates machine tools such as lathes, mills, and grinders that are controlled by machinists to produce precision metal or plastic parts. This position will report to the Shop Supervisor. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Read and interpret drawings.
- Use calipers, mics, and gauges to meet tolerance requirements and to pre-inspect parts before, during, and after each operation.
- Use precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as Manual lathes, vertical milling machine, chop saw, band saw, push and pull broaches and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
- Fabricates and shapes tools and machine parts out of metal, plastics, and composites.
- Properly and safely selects tooling, sets up machine, uses dial indicators, aligns, secures, and installs and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Recognizes, deploys, and properly uses inserts, fixtures, and tooling.
- Performs daily and regular cleaning and maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
- Complies with all ISO 9001:2015 quality policies, specifications, regulations, and instructions.
- Operates the overhead cranes and forklift effectively and safely.
- Cross-train worker teams for maximum production flexibility.
- Assist with other duties as requested by direct supervisor, administration, or management team.
- Follows all company policies and procedures and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Minimum, the Manual Machinist must have a high school diploma, or equivalent, along with at least 3-5 years of proven experience working with Manual machines.
- Effectively communicate in a positive and professional manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces with customers/public, fellow employees, vendors, etc.
- Ability to use appropriate computer programs (including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite) which includes having proficient computer skills and the ability to adapt and learn as programs and processes change.
- Ability to work as a team member and exert initiative to work independently to reach a goal.
- Ability to embrace change in the workplace while encouraging others to seek innovative approaches.
- Ability to function effectively as a team player.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including overtime, as needed, to best serve our customers and business operations.
- Willingness and ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
- Willingness and ability to handle materials and equipment in a responsible manner.
- Willingness and ability to handle prolonged periods of standing and walking consistently.
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body. This will include lifting, balancing, walking, carrying, and stooping.
- Must be willing and able to work in the shop and tolerate exposure to typical noises and smells associated with a manufacturing facility.
- Understand business structure, procedures, and chain of command.
