Healthy Pet Jesup is hiring for a Production Floater worker for the Night Shift. The Production Floater position is responsible for for filling in during employee absences and as needed on the Wet End, Dryers, Pellet Lines, and Packaging Lines. As a key member of our dynamic team, you’ll engage in a multifaceted role that combines hands-on operation of industrial process systems with management through Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems. This includes raw material input, water and chemical systems, screening equipment, bulk tanks, pellet mills, industrial dryers, and packaging equipment, ensuring the safety, quality, and efficiency of our operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Wet End Responsibilities
- Coordinates production with Management and Floor Leads. Reviews production figures and work orders with the prior shift Operator at the beginning of shift. Notes peculiarities with product production or machine operations. Adjust production rates accordingly.
- Balances and works to continuously improve safety, quality, productivity, costs and teamwork to achieve positive results in all areas.
- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment. Ensures machines are running properly and all safety guards and panels are in place during production. Refers major mechanical repairs to maintenance, as needed.
- Ensures product specifications are met and quality is maintained. Monitors production logs for samples, batch, run, chemical and pulp delivery. Documents variances. Rotates fiber stock. Conducts and records density analysis. Monitors cake thickness. Ensures proper auger operation. Takes filtered slurry samples and performs pH tests. Performs calculations to ensure contacts and surfactant deliveries are consistent and appropriate to product and production rates. Monitors chemical delivery filters and spray lines and heads. Changes nozzles as needed. Maintains proper screen and hydraulic system pressure. Ensures screens and pipes remain unplugged.
- Communicates with dryer operator on fiber consistency, production-processing rate. Alerts dryer operator of any problems in machinery performance.
- Acts as primary responder in an emergency situation. Operates the fire suppression system.
- Performs necessary equipment adjustments for production run changes.
- Operates a front end loader to high-stack pulp materials and mix batches within the established recipe and timeframe while maintaining proper water levels in tanks.
- Inputs data for production reports. Ensures timeliness and accuracy.
Dryer Responsibilities
- Performs hourly temperature and moisture analysis and recording this analysis and dryer temperature.
- Works closely with QC and supervisor to make sure product meets all QC specs.
- Maintains a strict observation and control of dryer to prevent risk of fire. Keeps fugitive dust along the outside of dryers and dryer area to an absolute minimum.
- Between shift changes, performs general cleanup of dryer area and communicates with oncoming operator of any issues or changes.
- In the event of fire emergency, operator is to locate possible sparks or fire and handle as trained. Maintain control of fire suppression system and reset and verify fire suppression system before restarting dryers.
- Communicates with Wet-End Operator with regard to product status, quality, fiber consistency and production processing rate.
- Identifies various pulp fibers and their make-up. Adjust dryer operation as needed.
- Performs preventative maintenance on trouble spots, throughout the dryers, on conveyor belts, and in auger compartments to ensure that dust build-up does not impeded proper operations.
- Routinely conducts visual analyses of product conditioning in each dryer zone to determine proper airflow, pile height and bed depth.
- Ensures that cooling fans are operating properly and the protective screens are free of dust.
- Monitors bag house. Verify fiber is being properly removed from hoppers.
- Conducts density analysis at various stages of drying and record remarks accordingly.
- Verifies that machines are running properly and that all safety guards and panels are in place. Performs light maintenance and apply lock-out/tag-out procedures when necessary. Notify maintenance when major mechanical repairs are needed.
- Maintains all documentation of the product and its production including recording fiber moisture content and filing these documents accordingly.
- Assists production team during weekly down-time in removing and cleaning product from the dryers, conveyor belts, stacks and machinery.
Packaging Line Responsibilities
- Assembles products in various stages and packages product while maintaining normal rate of production for each stage of assembly.
- Operates a variety of industrial equipment. Ensures machines are running properly and all safety guards and panels are in place during production. Performs necessary equipment adjustments for production run changes.
- Works within a team environment to ensure product quality meets or exceeds established standards. Monitors material quality throughout stages of production. Ensures adherence to product specifications.
- Reports irregularities in production materials, equipment or procedures.
- Palletizes product according to company and vendor procedures.
- Performs general clean up tasks throughout shift. Performs shift specific clean up, as assigned.
- Ensures proper placement or disposal of rejected product.
- Records daily production counts, as assigned.
- Documents quality on appropriate forms.
- Assists with inventory control, as assigned.
- Operates forklift in a safe manner.
- May train temporary and other staff, as assigned.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED
- 2 years of related operator experience (preferred) or experience with similar industrial equipment in a manufacturing environment
- Experience operating heavy machinery, production machinery and controls
- Must possess a valid driver’s and maintain throughout employment
- Must possess a fork lift certification and maintain throughout employment
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
- Apply good judgment, creativity and logical thinking to obtain potential solutions to problems
- Organize, prioritize and coordinate work assignments. Work effectively in a multi-task environment. Work at a steady and constant pace. Take appropriate initiative.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with industrial Human-Machine Interface control systems (HMI)
- Experience with Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) processes
