Description

SUMMARY:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Perform Routine and Periodic Cleaning

  1. Dust mop and wet mop assigned areas including resident rooms, bathrooms, utility rooms, common areas, nursing station, medication room (under nursing supervision)
  2. Dust horizontal surfaces daily
  3. Refill all soap and towel dispensers
  4. Perform daily, weekly, monthly and other assigned cleaning duties
  5. Transport waste, including wastebasket trash and other discarded refuge, to main collection receptacles indoors and outdoors, including waste, special hazardous waste and re-cycling.
  6. Vacuum carpeted areas.
  7. Clean vacant units as assigned. Must be able too clean up to four resident rooms in one hour, including damp mop.
B. Perform Resident Personal Laundry Services
  1. Collect resident personal laundry for cleaning and return to residents' room when laundered.
  2. Wash and dry personal laundry in accordance with facility laundry procedures.
  3. Clean equipment and maintain laundry supplies.
  4. Review clean resident clothing for mending needs and report to Coordinator or designee as needed.
  5. Collect facility linens for contract laundry services.
  6. Replenish linen carts and storage rooms.
C. Perform Floor Care Functions
  1. Scrub, wax and buff floors using appropriate supplies, equipment and procedures.
  2. Adhere to floor care cleaning schedules.
D. Adhere to Safety and Sanitation Standards
  1. Maintain good personal hygiene and adhere to uniform requirement
  2. Use and store own equipment and supplies effectively, efficiently and safely.
  3. Use only authorized chemicals and agents as directed.
  4. Practice universal precautions and other posted special precautions in resident environment. Use PPE when dispensing chemicals.
  5. Assist with blood spill clean-up in conjunction with licensed nurse direction.
  6. Clean own equipment and cart at end of shift
  7. Abide by facility infection control policies and procedures.
  8. Report faulty equipment to supervisor.
  9. Attend in-service programs as required. Participate in department studies, projects, on job training programs and attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  10. Leave resident room clean and neat as possible.
  11. Discard trash/waste and recyclables in proper containers.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Must be able to read and write and follow oral and written instructions.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous housekeeping experience in an institutional setting helpful.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

A. Physical - Will need to continuously stand, walk, reach, bend to floor, twist, sit. Must be able to lift, move or reposition facility furniture, and resident room furniture, including beds, chairs, and housekeeping cart. Circular arm and shoulder movements to clean mirrors and wash windows. Requires varying degrees of pushing, pulling and lifting depending on weight of solutions, containers, and supplies, sometimes up to 25 pounds unassisted or furniture up to 100 pounds with human assistance or mechanical device. Must have hand/ eye coordination sufficient to measure, pour and mix chemicals in solution for cleaning, stocking housekeeping cart and moving and replacing items when damp dusting horizontal surfaces. Must be able to identify resident placement and objects in rooms and hallways. Must be able to focus and read.

B. Sensory - Must be able to hear normal sounds and voice patterns with constant background noise. Must be able to receive and follow verbal instructions. Must be able to respond to audible emergency signals, alarms, and telephones. Must be able to smell smoke and offensive environment odors. Must be able to identify resident placement and objects in rooms and hallways. Must be able to focus and read chemical labels and mixing directions. Ability to identify colors for warning lights, signs and labels. Must be able to read regular/small size print.

C. Cognitive - Must be able to remember multiple assignments and status of completion over an extended period. Must be able to remember specific requests and relate them as necessary. Must be able to concentrate on details during frequent interruptions.
