LOCATION: Fairbanks, and North Slope Villages
REPORTS TO: Student Life Manager
WORK SCHEDULE: Appointment Only, Academic Year
COMPENSATION: $25/hour, Non-Exempt, Temporary Part-Time Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provides distance delivered tutoring services (via teleconference or video conference) to all Iisavik College students in the Anchorage and the Fairbanks region. One Academic Assistant for each location.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Offers assistance with developing study strategies for students, and refer assistive resources to compliment tutor session.
- Collaborate with students, teachers, and the Student Life Manager to determine student needs, develop tutoring plans, or assess student progress.
- Review class material with students by discussing text, working solutions to problems, or reviewing worksheets or other assignments.
- Maintain records of students assessment results, progress, feedback, or school performance, ensuring confidentiality of all records.
- Communicate students progress to students, teachers, and the Student Life Manager in written progress reports, in person, by phone, or by email.
- Participate in tutor training and development sessions.
- Maintain login sheets for tutoring services delivered and compiles end of semester/year reports.
- Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal and local laws, regulations and ordinances.
- Be punctual for all scheduled tutoring sessions. It is your responsibility to notify us, as soon as possible if you cannot meet with your students.
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Demonstrated knowledge of basic to intermediate skills in math, reading, writing, and computer literacy.
- Demonstrated experience working with students and/or adult learners.
- Be able to explain concepts to others effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct testing, select material, and provide individual or small group instruction.
- Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Possess good organizational skills and complete paperwork/log sessions in a timely manner.
- Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Interacts effectively in a multicultural environment and engages in Iupiaq cultural activities in the workplace.
- Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
- Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
- Ability to support Iisavik Colleges mission.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [REQUIRED]:
- Associates degree or equivalent.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAININGS [PREFERRED]:
- Valid drivers license.
