About the role:

We are currently seeking a Mine Engineer to join our Engineering team at our North Complex mine. North Complex is composed of two surface coal mines located in Gillette, Wyoming (Rawhide & Caballo Mines). The mines produce high quality thermal coal that is loaded onto haul trucks and then shipped by rail. It has approximately 465 million tons of coal reserves.

Gillette is known as the energy capital of the nation. Just an hour's drive from Devils Tower National Monument, Gillette is close to scenery with its famed rolling hills and open plains. Pronghorn and big game hunting across Campbell County is some of the nation's best, and you can scout the area on a Wildlife Loop Tour.

Peabody's North Complex Mines have a safety-first culture and strive to have zero recordable MSHA injuries/incidents.

This role will help with the planning and coordination of projects involving engineering, surveying, mapping, and report development. Provide field support and surveying for construction and other special projects as needed.

Duties will include:
  • Visibly support and champion Peabody's Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with and adhere to Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Develop and maintain maps for mine planning, quality evaluations, property control, and permitting for all active, proposed, and closed mining operations.
  • Accurately perform any surveying required for all active, proposed, or closed mining operations including, but not limited to, mine layout, pit locations, stockpile surveys, drainage layout, new construction, road layouts, property corners, and drill hole locations.
  • Accurately perform or assist in the gathering and recording of production and engineering data.
  • Inspect impoundments, culverts, roadways, etc. and develop written reports on all inspections.
  • Accurately translate survey data into AutoCAD/SurvCAD to develop maps, cross-sections, and volumetric calculations.
  • Assist the Engineering Department in the development of special projects, as needed.
  • Experience in truck/shovel pit design, dozer push design and production scheduling.
  • Experience with engineering calculations of volumetrics, short to mid-range mine planning and coal quality.
  • Conduct safety observations and complete safety interactions monthly.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Company.

About you:
  • 1-year experience in coal mine related surveying and/or engineering.
  • Bachelors Degree in Surveying, Technology, or Mining/Civil Engineering.
  • Must be proficient in the use of GPS equipment, I-Site Scanner and other traditional survey methods.
  • Must have a high level of math skills with the ability to perform survey and volumetric calculations.
  • Experienced in working with survey data to develop base mapping for mine related operations.
  • Proficiency with AutoCad/SurvCadd, Word and Excel. Experience with Vulcan software.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must have the ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift
  • Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles
  • Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders
  • Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
  • Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination
  • Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift
  • Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area
