The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM's Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Director, Signature Events, North America to provide leadership in developing and delivering transformational events in North America that bring audiences close to IJM's field work through compelling storytelling and experience activation to enable raising $50M+ annually. This position requires an innovative and artistic mindset to create unique, stand-out experiences and requires a collaborative, strategic leader who can work effectively with other executives to shape events that will meet shared goals.

This position is based in the Washington, DC area and is available to be hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays). Relocation assistance is available.

This role reports to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications, North America and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

Event Leadership
  • Collaborate with executive-level leadership to build visionary event concepts that will meet fundraising goals.
  • Partner with fundraising leaders and audience owners to understand donor insights to build events that serve critical needs in a donor's journey.
  • Lead and manage a team of event staff to develop and deliver events against clear and measurable goals.
  • Represent events' vision and purpose in leadership discussions and presentations.
  • Understand the latest innovations in the events and brand experience market and lead the team to be competitive with industry best practices while pushing towards the future.
Experience Design
  • Develop event experience with an understanding of donor or constituent insights that events are designed around to deepen IJM engagement and loyalty and enable fundraising.
  • Create a narrative and experiential arc for events from end-to-end and develop documents that mainstream the narrative across internal and external team members, speakers and stakeholders.
  • Partner with internal and external creative teams to provide creative leadership to ensure each experience is delivered with exceptional quality throughout all user touchpoints (design, operations, programming, etc.).
Content & Programming
  • Conceptualize innovative content and programming that engages and motivates audiences.
  • Collaborate with global communications and marketing teams and directly with field staff to shape impactful storytelling content.
  • Develop content that immerses and transports audiences to understand IJM's field work in deep and compelling ways, making the most of what is possible through live events.
Branding & Marketing
  • Oversee visual brand identity and messaging for events to effectively promote and communicate events to audiences.
  • Build and lead event marketing plans, including ticket sales campaigns.
  • Ensure marketing is on strategy and delivers on event metrics.
Logistics & Execution
  • Lead multiple productions simultaneously and ensure delivery on time and in budget, including end-to-end logistics.
  • Manage complex event budgets to steward resources well.
  • Source and manage relationships with vendors, including venues, caterers, production and A/V, and creative teams.
  • Lead post-event recap process to analyze event outcomes, gather feedback, and implement improvements.
Team Management
  • Manage a team to develop and deliver events.
  • Foster a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Coach and mentor team members and ensure professional development.
General Tasks
  • Participate in IJM's community of spiritual formation.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience
  • 7+ years running live events, exhibits, experiential marketing.
  • Bachelor's degree in event management, hospitality, marketing, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of event logistics for all scales of events.
  • 2+ years management experience.
  • Fundraising or fundraising events experience preferred.
Technical Competencies
  • Strong ability to create, build and leverage relationships and effectively interface with executive-level client leadership.
  • Sound decision-making and problem-solving skills based in agency, client and industry knowledge.
  • Experience managing creative vendors, production vendors, and agencies.
  • Ability to travel up to 20%.

*What is a statement of faith?
A statement of faith should describe your Christian faith and how you see it as relevant to your involvement with IJM.
