GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, provides a range of clinical, administrative, and staff support to a full-range dental services operation. Assists in the performance of dental procedures; prepares and maintains dental equipment and supplies in accordance with established protocol, policy & procedures, and standards, and assists in the coordination of day-to-day patient administration, records management, and office support activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for knowing and following all dental policies and procedures, including documenting all patient interactions into EHR timely
• Provides chair side assistance to dentist, residents, and students in the performance of
dental procedures, to include operative, preventive, periodontal, endodontic, prosthetic, and/or oral surgical procedures • Mix cements, pour models, prepare bleaching trays/mouth guards, and other lab work as needed
• Work with faculty and staff to insure the delivery of aseptic dental care to patients
• Able to take proper radiographs in a timely manner, while following safety guidelines
• Instruct patients in oral hygiene in a manner appropriate to various age levels
• Prepares, sterilizes, organizes, and sets up dental equipment, ensures that all dental instruments are cleaned, dated, and processed according to established clinic guidelines and standards
• Assist in organizing and controlling the use of clinical supplies
• Greet and prepare patients for treatment
• Establish rapport with patient in order to relieve anxiety
• Obtain overview of patient’s awareness of physical ailment and/or condition(s) and record information in chart
• Take and record blood pressure and sugar levels
• Maintain daily records and patient charts
• Provides patient with written material and verbal instructions at exams, treatment, and prevention
• Collect patient data pertaining to clinical research
• Perform expanded functions as assigned including but not limited to: fabrication of temporary crowns and bridges intra-orally, applying sealants, taking impressions, applying topical fluoride, coronal polishing of teeth, polishing restorations, placing temporary restorations, placing and removing rubber dam.
• Effectively uses ADP to manage daily hours, while practicing punctuality and dependability
• Able to complete daily, weekly and monthly tasks and sign off on them without being asked to do so by a supervisor
• Able to set up procedures with all basic, necessary supplies/instruments and has patient ready for treatment using the proper PPE
• Makes sure that patient forms are completed accurately, makes sure that consent forms are explained to and signed by the patient prior to treatment, and provides written and verbal post-op instructions prior to treatment
• Practices safety in the treatment room by placing proper barriers on necessary surfaces at all times
• Demonstrates use of proper PPE at all times in the dental clinic
• Demonstrates proper handling of sharps/biohazard materials
• Demonstrates proper asepsis techniques by preparing, sterilizing, organizing and setting up dental equipment, ensuring that all dental instruments are sterilized, dated and processed according to established clinic guidelines and standards
• Able to present treatment plans and explain treatments to patients, parents, and/or guardians
• Able to efficiently navigate and accurately enter data into an EHR
• Takes vital signs when necessary and charts in EHR
• Able to manage patient care by submitting and tracking patient pre-authorizations and referrals
• Able to schedule and coordinate appointments according to patient’s treatment plan
• Able to provide good customer service to the patient, and maintain a polite and accommodating composure
• Effectively documents medical conditions, medications, special needs and places alerts when necessary
• Maintains ongoing readiness for AAAHC, and meets quality standards within AAAHC
• Follows all HIPAA and Compliance Program guidelines
• Participates in monthly inventory process and works to conserve dental materials and supplies
• Able to take an adequate dental impression with minimal waste of material
• Able to take proper radiographs in a timely manner while following safety guidelines
• Interacts positively and politely with care team members and supervisors
• Maintains a clean/non-cluttered operatory, dental assistant office, lab and sterilization area
• Additional job duties as required
• May be required to work multiple locations
• Strict adherence to all Evara Health, HIPAA, HRSA, State, Federal and accreditation agency rules and regulations
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Graduate of an approved Dental Assistant Program
• Required: Novice to six (6) months
• Preferred: One (1) or more years of experience as Dental Assistant
