SUMMARY
Family Service League is seeking a part-time salaried Medical Director. The Medical Director provides medical supervision and direction to all prescribers, oversees mental health and substance abuse services, and collaborates with administrative staff in the Agency’s programs to ensure that optimal care is being provided and delivered in a manner that is clinically effective and efficient. The Medical Director sees clients and acts as a prescriber when necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- The Medical Director will recruit, hire, train, manage, develop, and conduct supervisions with all Agency prescribers, including Doctors and Nurse Practitioners.
- Regularly evaluate and monitor clinical performance of medical staff. Conduct performance reviews at least annually.
- Assist direct reports in evaluating their staff on a regular basis, and as needed.
- Plan, organize and supervise the medical component of services offered by the Agency.
- Formulate, implement and evaluate treatment methods and procedures.
- The Medical Director will plan, develop and implement medical policies and procedures.
- Determine clinical needs of behavioral health programs.
- Draft, monitor and enforce psychiatric medical standards and practices.
- Provide psychiatric consultation, where appropriate.
- Be a collaborating physician to the Agency’s nurse practitioners, as necessary.
- The Medical Director will assess and prescribe medication for individuals served when needed. Provide medical back-up for other medical staff.
- Serve on/chair Client Incident Review and other related committees to ensure compliance with program and licensing standards and quality goals.
- Participate in and/or provide in-service training for staff development.
- Stay abreast of current developments in the field of psychiatry, including the concepts of recovery and resilience, telehealth and use of electronic applications.
- Guide programs and staff in providing excellent care to all individual service recipients.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and collaborative working relationships with external stakeholders.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
An MD or DO degree, along with a licensure to practice medicine in NY State, is required. Completion of accredited psychiatric residency program required. Board eligibility is required. A Board certification is preferred.
Five years’ of progressively responsible experience working as a doctor in a public/private clinical facility required.
Five years of prior leadership and clinical supervision experience is required.
Familiarity with community mental health and substance abuse systems and practices, as well as principles and practices of general and preventative psychiatry, is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of the methods and procedures used in diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders, psychiatric medications and their interactions with other prescription drugs, and general medicine and its relationship to behavioral health, is required.
Previous experience with quality assurance, utilization review, clinical management and medication monitoring systems, procedures and practices is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of budgeting and cost control is strongly preferred.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and EHR, are required.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
Strong ethics, judgement and problem-solving skills are required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires sitting for long periods of time and driving to all applicable locations required.
