We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Construction Inspector to join our team. This position offers great opportunity for dynamic, motivated self-starters to work on a variety of work assignments. You’ll be a member of our highly respected team of professionals with a full complement of resources to support you and exciting projects to keep you challenged.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs inspections on storm drain, water, sewer, concrete, paving, sign, stripe, landscape and generate punch list for all deficiencies found. Upon completion of the punch list items, coordinates with developer to conduct final inspection, accept project, and closeout.
  • Inspects private developer construction projects, Sovereign Nation, and City contract projects to assure an acceptable quality level and compliance and standards in civil engineering and public works areas including, but not limited to: sewer installations, metering stations, lift stations, force mains, etc.; water installations, wells, pump stations, transfer stations, etc.; storm drain installations, catch basins, slotted drains, review and verification of all testing for water and bacterial testing, drywells, pipe, retention basins, etc.; grading and drainage work; street light installations; dry utility installations, including electric, telephone, telecommunication, and cable TV trenching, and conduit installation; paving and concrete flatwork, including curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, etc.; and bridges and structures.
  • Performs SWPP storm water prevention plan inspections, irrigation inspections and traffic signal inspections.
  • Interprets, applies, and enforces the provisions of the City’s or Sovereign Nation's Engineering Design Standards and Policies; MAG specifications and standards; and other applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Reviews and interprets construction plans, including water, sewer, paving, landscape, streetlights, and grading and drainage plans; ensures compliance with requirements governing uniform construction, installation of utilities and amenities, traffic, sanitation, and other factors.
  • Coordinates construction activities with other City or Sovereign Nation departments, divisions, and sections and with outside agencies including governmental, consultants, engineers, developers, and contractors.
  • Initiates letter of acceptance or release of Certificate of Occupancy when all work meets specifications and standards.
  • Notifies other City or Sovereign Nation departments when their facilities will be affected by construction; coordinates work sequences and schedules with contractors, private sector utilities, and other City or Sovereign Nation departments and divisions.
  • Research materials and material testing. Research methods and practices used to complete commercial and custom home projects. Anticipates water usage needs in advance and coordinates with developers, contractors and water resources. When necessary, issues field memos, warnings, and stop work orders; and monitors project workflow.
  • Recommends revisions/updates to the Engineering Design Standards and Policies Manual.
  • Records on plans as-built information such as the location of valves, sewer connections, manholes, and water services. Maintains and records field changes on an approved field set of plans and transfers information to a maintained office set as built plans.
  • Reviews submitted final as-builts to ensure all field changes are included on the final as built plans.
  • Communicates and verifies progress payment requests and computes final quantities item by item from the contract bid schedule on City or Sovereign Nation contract jobs in order to determine the amount of money to be paid to the contractor.
  • Prepares and maintains records of inspection activities, prepares reports, enters project data into computerized tracking system, and attends meetings.
  • Maintains project files including detailed documentation and compliance of contract documents of project correspondence, test results, approved plans and shop drawings, and compliance certificates.
  • Coordinates pre–construction meeting for each project including coordinating scope of work. Inspects finals and warranty pre-walks.
  • Exhibits a service orientation towards external and internal customers and maintains productive working relationships. Investigates complaints and recommends solution and implementation with developers. Participates in monthly water/engineering meetings to solve field problems and build strong working relationships.
  • Performs plan review for dry utility installation including electric, telephone, telecommunications, cable TV trenching, and conduit installation.
  • Performs plan review and inspection of traffic control plans and implementation in compliance with state and local requirements (based on duties as assigned). Inspects and coordinates and may approve traffic control to ensure proper set up and maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, construction plans and specifications, documents, engineering technical standards, installation standards, and engineering manuals.
  • Have solid computer skills and experience using MS Office programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise initiative and display independent judgment.
  • Be self-directed and self-motivated.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Desired degree in engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience in construction inspection or a similar role required.
  • Certifications such as ODOT, NICET, Asphalt, and American Concrete Institute (ACI) concrete field testing, etc. are preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

COMPENSATION: SAFEbuilt pays competitive wages and has a strong benefit offering including a company vehicle.

SALARY RANGE: $35/hour - $45/hour
