About the role

An ideal candidate is hands-on, dynamic, and automation-driven. You will assist in the oversight of accounting operations, GAAP compliance, management of key controllership initiatives, reporting and more. This role requires critical thinking, effective organizational and execution, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a strong ability to build effective relationships across the company. This role interacts with all levels of management and third parties across financial and operational projects and initiatives. The ideal candidate is a licensed CPA with a mix of Big4 and industry experience and a focus on operations. The role will be key in moving processes from current state to best-in-class, as seen in more mature companies.

We are looking for a dynamic, results driven individual to join our Product Accounting Program Office as a Product Accounting Lead. This role will have a focus on Rippling's Global expansion, this product Accounting Lead will play a pivotal role in establishing and maintaining robust accounting infrastructure to support the introduction of new product offerings and expansion into Global markets. This role will closely collaborate with our global expansion, legal & compliance, treasury, business development, tax, payment operations, analytics, product, and research and development teams. Responsibilities include assessing the financial implications of new products and markets, managing projects, documenting accounting requirements, designing processes, and conducting user acceptance testing to operationalize accounting and reporting procedures timely. You will be serving as a primary liaison for product and engineering teams and will be a key stakeholder in building the foundation for new product development.

About the team

The Accounting team is responsible for accurate financial reporting and compliance with financial policies and regulations. Our diverse team consists of professionals spread across the United States, the UK, Ireland and India, with more international locations coming soon. Over the last couple years, our team has grown exponentially to support a complex, multi-product company that operates globally.

What you will do

  • Serve as a primary liaison between the Product Team and Accounting Department. Collaborate closely to understand, develop, and implement financial processes aligned with the company's new product roadmap.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with departments such as legal, finance, treasury, global, business development, tax, product, and research and development teams to deliver innovative and scalable solutions that adhere to stringent controls while remaining adaptable to evolving business needs.
  • Develop and implement the Accounting Requirement Documents (ARDs) for new products, encompassing aspects such as revenue recognition, fund flows, source system reporting, treasury requirements, month-end responsibilities, and DRIs ensuring adherence to GAAP and international accounting standards.
  • Establish and maintain robust accounting infrastructure to support the successful rollout of new products and country launches, including Chart of Accounts setup, monthly reconciliations, inter-company transactions, and foreign exchange considerations.
  • Conduct thorough User Acceptance Testing (UAT) procedures to validate system builds, ensuring seamless integration and functionality of accounting systems with new product launches and updates. This includes coordinating with cross-functional teams to address any issues identified during testing and ensuring readiness for production deployment.
  • Establish and document controls to uphold the integrity of financial reporting, maintaining a strong internal control environment particularly in relation to international subsidiaries and global products.
  • Drive process automation initiatives to streamline journal entries, reporting mechanisms, and system integrations, leveraging tools and technologies to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial processes.
  • Take ownership of ad-hoc requests and special projects in addition to daily responsibilities, demonstrating adaptability and a proactive approach to addressing evolving business needs.

What you will need

  • Certified Public Accountant or Qualified Chartered Accountant
  • A minimum of 8 years progressively responsible accounting and finance experience with at least 3 years focused primarily on global expansion and accounting
  • Detail-oriented with strong project management and organizational skills, with a willingness to roll up your sleeves and delve deep into processes and systems.
  • Exceptional people manager skills, open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to getting the job done
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Solid knowledge of GAAP revenue recognition requirements
  • Experience with Netsuite ERP and business systems data warehouse infrastructure (preferred)
  • Ability to work in a dynamic accounting department, successfully juggling multiple entities, projects and deliverables
  • Strong managerial, planning, organizational, decision-making, interpersonal, analytical, and lateral thinking skills

120,000 - 210,000 USD per year (US San Francisco Bay Area)
