Torch Technologies is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to join a team supporting the LRSO program. The position will require an engineer who has spent time on the manufacturing floor and has experience in casting, additive manufacturing, and tooling. The team will lean on this person to support vendor assessments, and the candidate should have a keen eye for best practices on the shop floor. The role will review design agency drawings, contracting documentation, and vendor processes to help the team ensure that the USAF will get the best hardware for our system.
The U.S. Air Force is developing a new LRSO nuclear missile. The service plans to field the LRSO by 2030 to replace the current, General Dynamics (now Raytheon) AGM-129A Advanced Cruise Missile (ACM) that originally entered service in 1991. In May 2021, the Air Force awarded an Engineering and Manufacturing Design (EMD) contract to Raytheon Missiles and Defense, Tucson, Arizona. The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) Nuclear Weapons Acquisition Division (AFNWC/NDB), which is resident at Eglin AFB, Florida, is the System Program Office (SPO) responsible for the acquisition.
Responsibilities:This position requires a highly motivated individual with experience to include the below job duties:
- Review vendor processes for completeness and the ability to reliably produce products.
- Plan, organize, perform, and provide guidance on manufacturing, mission assurance, quality, and supply chain activities.
- Provides engineering analysis support for a program transitioning from design development to production.
- Support operations with emphasis on yield improvements, capacity analysis, management of key characteristics and critical manufacturing process, and process validations.
- Provide technical recommendations to enhance system design, producibility, and performance
- Conducts manufacturing maturity assessments (MMAs) and quality assurance assessments.
- Prepare analysis and reports to support Production Readiness Review.
- Recommend design and/or test methods and statistical analysis approaches for achieving required and verifying levels of product reliability.
- Reviews system design and makes recommendations to resolve deficiencies to ensure manufacturing and quality has been appropriately incorporated into design.
- Review process control techniques, development of inspection planning and assessment of production deployment activities to include tooling, test equipment, training, supply chain management, maintenance requirements and production planning and control systems.
- Assesses Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other system change requests to identify and quantify manufacturing risks and impacts.
- Analyze data on long lead impacts, diminishing manufacturing sources material shortages, learning curve, statistical process control (CpK), cost, root cause, corrective action, and test thoroughness.
- Evaluates and analyzes methods and procedures for inspection, test and acceptance of hardware.
- Participates in failure review boards, analyzes root cause failure, and drives corrective actions forward to completion.
- Represents the IPT at program office Risk Boards, Configuration Control Boards, Material Review Boards, Contract Data Requirement Documentation and at various contractor meetings, management reviews and engagements to include supplier assessments and surveillance.
- Possess a BS in field of Engineering or equivalent experience
- Hold a minimum of 2 years performing Manufacturing Engineering work
- Be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, with eventual TS eligibility.
- Support travel at least once per month
- Must be able to work onsite. No telework allowed for this position.
- BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- At least 3 years' Manufacturing Engineer experience.
- Current active Secret security clearance, TS eligibility desired.
- Desired experience conducting manufacturing maturity assessments. Preferred to have experience transitioning from design development to manufacturing phases.
- Desired experience with production, testing, and acceptance of weapon systems or complex designs.
- Desired experience in implementation of manufacturing techniques and tooling measurements.
- Nuclear weapons experience is desired, but not required.
- Desire to have Air Force DAU Engineering and Technical Management (or similar)
Job Type: Regular Full-time
Security Clearance: Able to obtain Secret, Must be able to obtain Top Secret clearance. May be allowed to work after obtaining interim Secret clearance.
Schedule: 40 Hrs/week
