SUMMARY
The Yard Jockey is responsive to the Plant Manager regarding movement of trailers between bays and our facility. The yard jockey is responsible for timely movements and thorough knowledge of on-hand inventory and positioning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned.
• Responsible to maintain a neat and orderly storage lot oriented toward maximizing efficiency in servicing the plant needs.
• Operate yard truck in a safe manner during numerous roll-on/roll-off procedures daily involving loaded and empty containers/trailers.
• Drive and operate vehicle under 15 mph in and around the plant and storage lot.
• Must be aware that operations occur on asphalt, concrete and gravel surfaces in an environment often contaminated with material subject to embedding in tires.
• Responsible for accounting for records involving container/trailer numbers, gross weights, tare weights, and net weights on the scale log sheet to include source and type of material.
• Must function and interact on a daily basis with plant personnel and comply with plant safety requirements.
• Ensures that assigned paperwork is completed legibly, neatly, accurately, and completely and returned to Transportation Supervisor or Dispatcher for processing. Ensures DOT Driver Log is completed, if applicable.
• Communicate using a cellular telephone or 2-way radio with dispatch, operations, and plant personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must have at least 2 years' experience with driving a tractor-trailer.
• Yard Driver experience is a plus.
• Maintains current required driver's license, with an excellent driving record.
• Must have CDL A license.
• Maintains current Medical Examiner's Certification (MEC).
• Must work safely and carefully to prevent injury to self and others while driving, loading, and unloading vehicle. Requires constant mental and visual attention relative to the safe operation of the vehicle.
• Successfully pass pre-employment drug screen, background and motor vehicle records check.
Work Schedule:
• 3 Days On/3 Days Off - 12-hour shifts
