Job Description

The Manager of Alumni Persistence works with KIPP Baltimore alumni who have graduated from high school, supporting them as they persist to and through their postsecondary pathways. The Manager of Alumni Persistence helps students navigate their post-secondary programs and institutions so that they can successfully attain the credentials needed to achieve individual goals and lead fulfilling lives. The Manager of Alumni Persistence reports to the Lead Manager of Alumni Persistence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manager of Alumni Persistence responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with teammates to devise a strong student transition plan from Career and College Advising to Alumni Persistence advisors (15%)

    • Engage in introductory one-on-one or group meetings with students, with the support of the Career and College advising team.
    • Prepare for and participate in transition meetings with the Career and College advising team.
    • Support college and post-secondary program freshmen with matriculation tasks such as verification, completing housing applications, registering for courses, etc.
  • Maintaining a caseload of alumni enrolled in post-secondary programs and institutions and supporting their return to, persistence in and graduation from these pathways (65%)

  • Conduct outreach and form authentic relationships with alumni using a variety of communication strategies including cold calls, scheduled phone calls, virtual meetings, and campus visits.

  • Utilize motivation interviewing skills to engage students in problem solving and confidence-building advising conversations.

  • Help alumni problem-solve and navigate academic, financial, and socio-emotional challenges.

  • Assist students with tasks such as class selection, registration, and financial aid completion.

  • Provide opportunities for alumni to connect to each other and to KIPP Baltimore staff and students through events and programming.

  • Implement programming, including a book scholarship program, to support post-secondary persistence and credential completion.

  • Connect alumni with community resources that will help them meet their individual goals including tutors, mentors, internship and job opportunities, summer programs, etc.

  • Develop relationships with staff on college campuses and in community organizations.

  • Collecting and analyzing alumni data (20%)

  • Manage alumni data in the KIPP Database including contact notes, benchmark assessment data and enrollment information.

  • Collect and organize documents vital to strong advising including confirmations of FAFSA completion and college transcripts.

  • Participate in alumni data analysis meetings, inclusive of regional match meetings.

  • Regularly review caseload data and progress toward goals, then use the analysis to inform strategy and next steps.

  • Serving as a full-time and engaged member of KIPP Baltimore’s staff.

  • Meet regularly with the Lead Manager of Alumni Persistence as well as the KIPP Forward Team.

  • Develop positive, appropriate relationships with current students and alumni as well as with fellow staff members.

  • Support team events such as alumni reunions.

  • Attend, and actively participate in, all staff meetings.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Lead Manager of Alumni Persistence and the KIPP Forward Director.

Qualifications:
Qualifications

  • A passion for the mission of KIPP Baltimore.
  • A Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, counseling, or social work.
  • Experience helping educationally underserved students and families navigate college admission, financial aid, and scholarship application procedures.
  • Knowledge of the high school and college landscape in Baltimore City and Maryland is preferred.
  • Knowledge of state (MHEC), federal (Federal Student Aid) and institutional financial aid processes is preferred.
  • Ability to regularly work evening hours, a typical day is 10am-6pm, and work evenings when needed (i.e. to hold events and facilitate programming).
  • Ability to travel to high schools and post-secondary institutions to meet with, support, and provide connecting experiences for students.
  • Outstanding ability to autonomously manage the workstream, maximizing student engagement and ensuring that all deadlines are met and timely follow up to student needs occurs.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build authentic relationships with students, families, and the team using excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced, high energy environment with a proven ability to juggle multiple deadlines and tasks.
  • Excellent project management and data analysis skills.
  • Ability to facilitate group workshops for a range of audiences and comfort with public speaking.
  • Unwavering attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Willingness to ask questions and genuine openness to feedback and learning.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher)

Compensation and benefits are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, with a salary range of $65,000 to $70,000. KIPP Baltimore Inc. offers a full benefits package, including a 401K with a 4% match.
