AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.

Summary:

AST is looking for an Engineer who will assist in developing, evaluating, and improve manufacturing methods and processes for the purpose of sustaining the manufacture of existing products as well as the introduction of new products.

Duties and Responsibilities:​

  • Assess new product concepts and designs for manufacturability and provide such assessment and recommendations to R&D/Product Engineering.
  • Develop methods and processes to manufacture new products in the safest manner, at the desired quality standards, and at the lowest cost to meet projected demand in a timely manner.
  • Conduct proof of principle or proof of concept studies.
  • Conduct detailed process design, including layouts, tooling, fixturing, programming testing and documentation.
  • Continuously improve current production methods using Six-Sigma methodologies and utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling, and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods and quality control standards.
  • Provide technical know-how to troubleshoot problems in current production.
  • Participate or Lead Safety, Kaizen, and other initiatives.
  • Responsible for qualifying new or modified product throughout the processes to completion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or 8 years of equivalent experience.
  • Associate Level:
    • 0-3 experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Mid-Level:
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient with use of computer and software applications including MS Office products, CAD/CAM.
  • Understanding of tooling & fixture design.
  • Understanding of tooling, gauging, Six Sigma and capability studies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, able to write instruction manuals, work instructions and process procedures. Experience in Technical Writing a plus.
  • Must have strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Must be able to write, read, and speak English.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving, interpersonal, communications and leadership skills with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pFMEA and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience in Liaison/Concurrent engineering environment.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Inventor or other.
  • Experience in ERP/MES/PLM systems. Solumina (MES), NetSuite (ERP), Fusion360 (PLM).
  • Experience in supporting operations using robotic equipment.
  • History of process improvements and new process design based on advancements in technology and changing environment of manufacturing using Six Sigma principles.
  • Black Belt Six Sigma (DMAIC) certification.
