Position Overview: As a Manufacturing Engineer at Reader Precision Solutions, you will play a crucial role in driving process improvement, enhancing ergonomics, and advancing tool-making capabilities. Your primary responsibilities will involve optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring efficient production, and contributing to the overall success of our innovative machine shop
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Process Improvement:
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement innovative solutions and best practices to enhance overall manufacturing performance.
- Technical Documentation:
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for manufacturing processes, including standard operating procedures, work instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Ensure that all documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant teams.
- Tool Making:
- Develop and implement tooling strategies to optimize machining processes and enhance tool life.
- Support secondary process development through fixturing and tooling as needed.
- Collaborate with machinists to create custom tools that align with project requirements, ensuring precision and efficiency.
- Provide machine troubleshooting assistance as needed.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, actively seeking opportunities for advancements in manufacturing technologies, techniques, and equipment.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate waste, reduce cycle times, and improve overall operational efficiency.
- Quality Assurance:
- Work closely with quality control team to establish and maintain high-quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Design & complete feasibility review, testing, & implementation of custom manufacturing/inspection equipment.
- Investigate and resolve issues related to product quality and collaborate with quality and production team to implement corrective actions.
- Ergonomics:
- Assess and optimize workstations and workflows to improve ergonomics and enhance the safety and well-being of the production team.
- Integrate ergonomic principles into the design and layout of manufacturing processes to minimize physical strain and improve productivity.
Skills & Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field with at least 3 years of proven experience in a manufacturing environment; an appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience in a high-tech machine shop environment is ideal, but not required.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, CNC programming, and tooling preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Prior experience using basic hand tools and precision measuring instruments highly preferred.
- Knowledge of insert-type tooling and basic metalworking theory is ideal (cutting, tooling, material properties, machine tools, cutting fluids & coolants).
- Critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills with a drive for results.
- Proficiency with 3D modeling software, Autodesk Inventor preferred.
- A high level of proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings including GD&T.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate across the organization at all levels.
- Effective collaboration skills and focus in supporting the overall team for success in serving our clients.
- Excellent computer skills in MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word); ERP system knowledge with the ability to extract data and perform data maintenance/tracking is helpful.
- Proficiency in shop mathematics required (arithmetic & geometry).
- Proven ability to muli-task and maintain high volume workload as well as the ability to plan and organize daily workload to ensure timely completion of tasks and projects.
- A positive attitude and exceptional aptitude for growing your skills.
Work Schedule: This position is full-time, exempt (salaried), and requires approximately 45 hours per week. The core schedule for this position will be 6:30am – 4:00pm.

- Ability to continuously lift 10 lbs, frequently lift up to 25 lbs, occasionally lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to push/pull up to 200-300 lbs with wheeled pallet jack.

- Ability to stretch and reach.
- Prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
- Ability to move around the manufacturing facility to inspect processes and equipment.
- Manual dexterity and precision for handling tools and equipment.
- Exposure to machining and manufacturing environments, including noise, dust, solvents, and varying temperatures.
- Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Typically, work is performed within a manufacturing environment where the noise level is moderate to high.
