Tapestry is X’s moonshot for the electric grid. We are a team of software engineers, power systems experts, and clean energy enthusiasts who are determined to tackle climate change through our energy system. Tapestry aims to make the world’s electric grid visible so everyone, everywhere can access clean, affordable, and reliable energy. We partner with organizations worldwide to create AI-powered tools that assist in building and managing a carbon-free and secure electricity system. Currently incubating at X, Alphabet’s innovation lab, we are building the team to scale Tapestry for greater global impact. About the role Reporting to the General Manager, you will develop, lead, and implement an inspiring communications and public affairs strategy to drive Tapestry’s ambitious global vision. You will be a cross-functional leader with strategic and commercial thinking abilities, thriving in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment. You will collaborate with partners on communications campaigns and inspire future partners in industry and government to join us in our mission to accelerate the decarbonization of the grid. This position requires a strong understanding of the energy industry and experience in policy. You need to be a strong writer and creative thinker with excellent media relations skills. Responsibilities include: Developing and delivering an inspiring communications and public affairs strategy to support the team’s ambitious agenda globally. Creating various communication materials to support Tapestry’s campaigns, such as press releases, FAQs, and talking points for diverse press, industry, and policy audiences. Working cross-functionally and with partner organizations to create, lead, and execute complex multi-stakeholder communication campaigns. Building and maintaining strong relationships with press members, influencers, policymakers, and partners, serving as an on-record spokesperson. Developing strategies to engage policymakers and key opinion formers on matters affecting Tapestry’s rollout and contributions to the energy sector. Engaging directly with press, policymakers, industry players, think tanks, and key opinion formers to shape Tapestry’s reputation and policy efforts. Training, advising, and developing spokespeople for media interviews, press conferences, and industry presentations; preparing talking points and briefing documents. Messaging development. Internal communications, focusing on employee engagement and working with the C-suite on their communication tactics. Identifying, framing, and bringing press stories to life to strengthen our reputation. What you should have: 15 years of communications and policy experience. BA/BS degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience. Startup experience is ideal; a startup mentality is a must. Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with comfort in complicated technology and energy topics, and the ability to explain them simply to various audiences. A writing sample/test will be required for all applicants. Understanding of energy, sustainability, and climate change issues and the related stakeholder landscape. Experience working with utilities, energy trade associations, NGOs, advocacy groups, policymakers, and similar stakeholders. Media relations skills and experience, with a history of developing and building strong media relationships. Experience building and leading high-performing, multi-disciplinary teams. Strong people and relationship skills; a highly visible and accessible management style, with a genuine willingness to listen. Superior interpersonal and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to think strategically and critically. Ability to consistently exercise sound judgment and possess strong skills in leadership, persuasion, and negotiation. Willingness and ability to flex between higher-level strategy and detailed executional work. A passion for decarbonizing the electric grid. Confident decision-maker; self-starter with high energy/drive, a sense of humor, a positive attitude, and results-oriented. An optimistic and resilient spirit. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $202,000 - $250,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
