GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Manager with a passion for building high performance, low-latency platforms, and applications. You will build and manage a team of engineers with a deep focus on delivering enterprise-wide solutions to operate in a highly performant and efficient way. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we redefine experiences for our customers.
Position Description
At Core Insurance Platform in Geico Tech our goal is to build a new generation of platforms and capabilities to support our insurance business. We leverage modern architecture patterns like event-sourcing and microservices and embrace open source as a recent member of the Linux Foundation.
Position Responsibilities
As a Senior Manager, you will:
Work with your Director to address project dependencies, negotiate and estimate incremental delivery dates for milestones with the stakeholder community, and deliver projects on time.
Identify and raise appropriate project risks, presenting detailed and implementable solutions or alternatives.
Understand how requirements and design choices may impact systems across multiple areas.
Report on your team’s progress for project and other key metrics, presenting ideas for areas to improve product or project delivery.
Initiate and support performance evaluation of team members.
Cultivate a culture that motivates all levels of performers to higher levels of achievement.
Build and maintain relationships with your team members to support an environment of trust.
Foster a culture of growth mindset that acknowledges and expects individuals to grow and be accountable.
Identify technical or analytical skill gaps that may risk future team deliverables and craft a plan to remediate.
Proficiently execute difficult conversations on development and performance.
Craft and deliver strategic and persuasive arguments to drive projects that enhance cost leadership and customer experience.
Manage up to leadership and provide feedback when appropriate.
Administer coaching plans and Performance Improvement Plans.
Craft fully compliant quality documentation.
Compliant negotiation and execution of warning administration and/or involuntary termination.
Develop the team budget and report on results achieved at regular intervals.
Significantly contribute to the team planning process.
Collaborate with product teams to understand their pain points and formulate strategies to address recurring issues.
Influence and build vision with product owners to ship quality products faster.
Develop and motivate teams to solve complex problems and advocate for open-source technologies.
Drive the team towards building solutions for long-term goals while addressing high priority tech debts efficiently.
Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams.
Qualifications
Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and core computer science concepts.
Basic UI/UX, API and prototype design knowledge and experience.
Proven experience in digital experimentation to optimize online customer experience.
Knowledge of DTM tagging, including implementation solution design and processing rule set.
Hands-on experience with Metadata management tools (Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, etc.).
Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, etc.).
Working knowledge of object-oriented development, Gang of Four (GOF) Design Patterns, Microservices, and both frontend and backend unit testing.
Proven ability to learn technical concepts and adapt to new technologies quickly.
Strong Cloud (AWS, GCP, Azure etc.) platform knowledge.
In-depth knowledge of MS Office tools for effective communication.
Proficiency in Project Management and work item management tools (Jira, Azure DevOps, Portfolio).
Proficiency in Program Management tools (MS Project, Visio, Excel).
Experience in existing Operational Portals (Azure Portal).
Fluency with Java, Go, .NET, HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, JSON, and RESTful Web Services.
Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments.
Experience in PowerShell Scripting.
Ability to construct, interpret, and apply metrics to your work and decision making.
Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering and DevOps principles.
Strong technical acumen in Cloud Architecture, Performance Benchmarking, and Capacity planning.
Expert in Container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes), container runtimes and optimization.
Experience managing and growing technical leaders and teams.
Experience
8+ years of experience in a leadership position.
6+ years coding experience.
5+ years of development in a large-scale, mission-critical environment.
5+ years of hands-on work experience supervising personnel in a technical environment.
5+ years of experience with one of the public clouds - AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service.
2+ years' experience with automated testing including Unit, Integration, and End-to-End functional testing.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
Annual Salary
$130,000.00 - $300,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate.
