HOERBIGER Engine/Altronic LLC is seeking an Electronics Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at our Girard, Ohio location. This role falls within the Manufacturing Engineering Department and will have a focus in our PCB Assembly Department which has been engineered to accommodate a lean manufacturing flow that contains Surface Mount and through-hole technologies, Automated Optical Inspection, mass soldering and selective soldering technologies, Manual soldering and assembly, In-Circuit testing, and conformal coating. The department has an environment that consists of both a technological and people driven atmosphere with a trend moving more towards technology driven processes. This role will require the individual to work within a team and independently and communicate openly with the department supervisor, technicians, fellow engineers, design engineering, sales, etc. If you are someone who truly enjoys working with next level Manufacturing technologies, this position is for you!

Main Tasks. The main tasks for this role include acting as the local expert relating to PCB manufacturing processes, mainly Surface Mount Assembly. Additional processes include manufacturing equipment for both through hole and SMD, soldering processes, and soldering standards. The successful candidate must have strong attention to detail and a high sense of quality.

Individual Tasks:

  • Identify and implement automation, semi-automation, and improvement opportunities.
  • Define requirements/specifications and evaluate equipment/processes
  • Model and document manufacturing flows.
  • Lead or assist on manufacturing process development.
  • Manufacturing Lead on using the 3D printer lab and creating/designing any necessary fixtures needed
  • Specify and execute installation, operation, and production qualification plans for new equipment
  • Provide recommended maintenance for manufacturing equipment to maintenance department
  • Act as engineering support for in-house production personnel and assist with product non-conformances and other production issues. Perform root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventative actions as required.
  • Design and fabricate tools/fixtures to improve manufacturing processes as required.
  • Implement standard working procedure documents (Work Instructions)
  • Work with Design Engineering/Methods Engineering as necessary to aid in the development of new products and to ensure compatibility with processes.
  • Responsible for training production personnel in soldering and/or developing formal training procedures.
  • Act as in-house expert relating to soldering standards
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment during unplanned maintenance

Requirements/Challenges.

  • 4-year Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology / electronics/ Mechatronics or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret assembly drawings/schematics
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic skill in Microsoft Word, Excel and other related software are a plus
  • Ability to write process documents and analysis reports
  • Must have positive attitude and be able to work in a team environment
  • Highly energetic personality with the ability to multi-task
  • Must have 5+ years' experience working as an engineer related to surface mount technology

Special Knowledge/Skills.

  • Strong knowledge with various PCBA equipment and/or processes
  • Ability to adapt to different software tools to facilitate operation of the equipment
  • Basic PC Functionality
  • Strong Electro-Mechanical Aptitude
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • IPC Specifications and Standards, Certification desired but not required - experience with soldering both through-hole and SMT components a must
  • High attention to detail, pride in their work, and high sense of quality
