THE POSITION
The Mental Health Nurse position in the behavioral health outpatient programs performs high level licensed professional nursing duties in the clinics and in the community including: critical assessment of the client's needs (including physical health), psychiatric conditions and current status; health evaluation and screening; patient care instruction, dispensing of psychotropic oral medication and administration of long-acting injectable medications; conducting brief individual education and counseling to patients and/or family members regarding the diagnosis, treatment, and physical health follow-up, encourages linkage to health services; consulting with the physicians and clinical program colleagues; addressing medication issues and pharmacy concerns and requests; reconciling medication inventories, coordinating pharmacy deliveries and completing accurate and timely documentation. THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to support client recovery and resilience, engaging in health promotion, prevention, and educational activities (i.e., assess for risky behaviors and attempt behavior change); educating other team members to help them monitor psychiatric symptoms and medication side effects; and when clients are in agreement, develops strategies to maximize the taking of medications as prescribed (e.g., behavioral tailoring, development of individual cues and reminders.) EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Two years of psychiatric nursing or community mental health nursing experience,
AND
Associate's degree in Nursing or diploma in Nursing from a three year RN program.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required. Possession of a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Possession of a current CPR certificate.
