Job Overview:

MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is a private university with a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and adult education programs, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, MNU seeks to educate students to serve with purpose within the educational context of the liberal arts, and a Wesleyan-holiness theological perspective. Under the Associate Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness, the Applications Analyst will be responsible for the development and daily management of several key academic technology areas, including the learning management system (Moodle) and enrollment CRM (Slate), as well as providing educational technology and data management support.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

Educational Technology Support
  • Administer and support the LMS (Moodle) platform and connected systems to meet the needs of faculty, students, and administrators.
  • Administer and support the Panopto enterprise media platform as a university-wide resource.
  • Manage user accounts, enrollments, course creations, and permissions in the LMS system.
  • Act as the primary contact for evaluation, selection, and integration of third-party tools and plugins to enhance the functionality of the LMS.
  • Prepare/create reports related to student learning and success within the LMS.
  • Manage relationships with the LMS managed hosting vendor and third-party tools and plugins, including contracts, technical support, and end-user issue resolution.
  • Provide faculty support and training for new classroom technologies and equipment.
  • Train student workers for classroom technology support roles, as needed.
  • Consult with IT regarding new classroom technology projects.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty, administration, and students regarding technical issues, updates, and resolutions related to educational technology (LMS and classroom).

Enterprise Application/Data Management
  • Develop and maintain a student portal/CRM for enrolled students to stand alongside the current admissions CRM (Slate).
  • Build and maintain bi-directional data integration with external systems (SIS, LMS, etc.) using new or existing tools.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative offices to ensure that relevant business processes are accurately captured and efficiently run through the student portal.
  • Work with the database administrator and Academic Affairs staff to ensure the accuracy and integrity of SIS (Ellucian Banner) data.
  • In collaboration with admissions CRM administrators, build effective communication flows and train end-users on Slate functionality and best practices.
  • Assist SIS database administrator and AVP-IE in the design and development of analytic data resources (database views, ETL pipelines, data models).
  • Ensures best practices in data security and privacy are maintained


Qualifications

Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented and creative.
  • Competency in basic SQL. Experience with Python/R a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of student information systems such as Banner or Colleague.
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems such as Moodle (preferred).
  • Ability to learn new technologies in order to train others on uses and best practices.
  • Competency in developing and administering business forms and surveys.
  • Ability to translate data and business process needs between end users and technical staff.
  • Written and oral communication skills, including presentations and written reports.
  • Strong time management skills along with the ability to shift work focus and assist in achieving priorities.
  • Ability to develop project timelines and implementation plans.
  • Ability to train staff and provide ongoing support in a university environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with student data.


Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or higher: computer science, information technology, data science, or quantitative science preferred.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience working in higher education.
  • Experience working as an educational/instructional technologist, CRM administrator, and/or LMS administrator are a plus.
