Our ED is seeking (1) Night Shift ER Tech!
Job Summary:
The Emergency Services Tech provides support for the patients, visitors, nursing and ancillary departments under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
Functions and Duties:
- Assesses and maintains department specific equipment and products.
- Obtains vital signs, promptly documents, and reports any abnormal vital signs to the Nurse.
- Performs efficiently in emergency situations.
- Performs glucometer checks and other duties as assigned within practice and skill level.
- Answers call lights timely and assist patients with requested needs.
- Performs EKG’s.
- Removes Foley Catheters.
- Places patients on cardiac monitor.
- Discontinue intravenous catheters.
- Stocks rooms.
- Stocks blanket warmers.
- Check eye wash stations.
- Completes quality checks on Accu check machines.
- Assists/setups for laceration repair.
- Setups for chest tube insertion.
- Checks vital signs.
- Documents in electronic health record.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
Experience
- One year of job related experience preferred.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Phlebotomy trained/certificate of completion within 1 year of employment.
- BLS within 3 months of employment.
- De-Escalation training within 6 months of employment.
- CNA certification, EMT/Paramedic certification or Student Nurse after completion of first semester of clinical.
Skills and Abilities
- Medical terminology.
- Knowledge of medical supplies.
- Knowledge of medical equipment.
Physical Demands:
- Sit or stand for a prolonged period of time
- Regularly exposed to body fluids with the risk of bloodborne pathogens or airborne pathogens
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (mask, gown, gloves) when required.
Lifting/transferring
- Able to lift 25 pounds from floor to waist using proper body mechanics
- Able to lift or position clients greater than 50 pounds with assistance or assistive devices, requesting assistance is expected
Pushing/Pulling
- Required in positioning and moving clients and medical equipment. Pushing required performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Stooping/kneeling/reaching
- Considerable twisting, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching during many aspects of clients care (bathing, making beds, setting up and monitoring medical equipment)
Motor coordination and manual dexterity
- Able to use one or both hands for grasping, pushing/pulling and fine maculation to perform procedures
Tactile sensation
- Able to feel vibrations, temperature changes and pulses
Eyesight/vision
- Near acuity: clarity of vision at 20 inches or less; with 20/40 vision or better with or without correction.
- Far acuity: clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; with 20/40 vision or better with or without correction
- Able to accurately read labels and prepare medications. Read written communication and monitor medical equipment findings.
Temperament
- Ability to adapt to continually changing environment
- Able to accept constructive criticism and accept own limits
- Emotional and mental stability needed to maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients, families and health team members.
Hearing
- Must be able to hear a forced whisper at 5 ft.
