Job Summary

The Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws and preparing specimens for laboratory testing with precision and care.

A key part of the role is to ensure patient comfort while collecting samples from a diverse patient population.

The Phlebotomist follows established procedures to maintain specimen integrity and uphold high standards in patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, and record maintenance and decontamination data.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Clearly explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection techniques, including the use of straight and butterfly needles.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label specimens accurately, and process them as required, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing.
  • Verify test requisitions against computer labels to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Prepare specimens for transport, storing samples at required temperatures, and using appropriate containers to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Attend annual training sessions to stay updated on protocols and safety measures.
  • Answer patient and staff inquiries and read laboratory results over the phone as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy (as required by state regulations).
  • Proficiency in specimen handling and processing techniques.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Certifications
  • Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state)
