Key Responsibilities
- Conduct blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge, and record maintenance and decontamination data.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures, ensuring accuracy and adherence to safety protocols.
- Clearly explain venipuncture and other specimen collection processes to patients.
- Demonstrate proficiency in blood collection techniques, including the use of straight and butterfly needles.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label specimens accurately, and process them as required, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing.
- Verify test requisitions against computer labels to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Prepare specimens for transport, storing samples at required temperatures, and using appropriate containers to maintain specimen integrity.
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and use all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Attend annual training sessions to stay updated on protocols and safety measures.
- Answer patient and staff inquiries and read laboratory results over the phone as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification in Phlebotomy (as required by state regulations).
- Proficiency in specimen handling and processing techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills for patient interaction.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
Certifications
