Performs janitorial maintenance and repair duties involving the general up-keep of a child care facility, and related work as required.

This position reports to the Site Director.
In contacts related to this position's duties, this individual acts as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS
This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved, as well as the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

Performs janitorial maintenance and repair duties involving the general up-keep of a child care facility, and related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sanitation
- Sweeps, mops, and scrubs floors.
- Cleans walks and outdoor areas (may include snow removal).
- Cleans washbowls, sinks, toilets, and urinals daily.
- Washes and dusts woodwork and furniture weekly.
- Disposes of garbage and trash after each meal.
- Washes windows.
- Vacuums rugs daily.
- Maintenance
- Maintains a safe environment.
- Tapes rugs.
- Covers electrical outlets after use.
- Stores cleaning materials out of reach of children.
- Removes broken or unsafe materials, reporting them to the director.
- Reports unsafe equipment to the director.
- Makes sure heating and lighting are operational and reports defects to the director.
- Performs occasional duties as requested by the Director such as:
- Paints and makes repairs.
- Replaces floor tiles.
- Performs simple carpentry tasks such as replacing window putty of making minor furniture repair.
- Cleans and maintains the center in an organized way.
- Follows a cleaning schedule or plan.
- Completes yearly inventory of maintenance materials and supplies.
- All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
- Previous repair and maintenance experience preferred.
COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of methods used in general housekeeping.
- Knowledge of tools, equipment, and supplies used in janitorial and maintenance work.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self starter.
- A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
- An attention to detail.
- Supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army.
POSITION LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will keep the Site Director informed on all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is required to do light to heavy physical work and must be able to lift at least 40lbs on a daily basis.
- In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard janitorial equipment.
- The work environment for this position includes an office or classroom environment with a low to moderate noise level.
