Blue Ridge Power is looking for Heavy Civil Operators with experience running excavators, bulldozers, and haul trucks local to our Apex project site in Cleveland, NC.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees, the public and the environment.
- Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.
- Understands when to wear personnel protective equipment (PPE).
- Frequently works with heavy equipment requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.
- Ability to perform all assigned tasks in a safe and effective manner.
- Work safely while operating equipment in the completion of new construction, maintenance, or repair work of civil site features.
- Reads and interprets drawings and specifications pertaining to civil and erosion control construction and maintenance.
- Capable of safely operating the following equipment: haul truck, compactor, skid steer, farm tractor, cart.
- Must be able to properly grease, fuel and maintain equipment they are operating.
- Must be able to communicate issues with equipment they are operating.
- Must be able to inspect equipment to ensure safe operations.
- Ability to understand and communicate information and work in a team environment.
- Maintains company vehicles and tools in good working order.
- Performs necessary maintenance and or housekeeping on or around construction sites.
- Understands the proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Must demonstrate BRP employee competencies (Grit, Collaboration, Ownership, Creativity.)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 2+ years' experience operating either bulldozers, excavators, haul trucks, or a combination of the mentioned equipment
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMAND:
- This position involves Heavy Work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, lift and grab; reach with hands and arms; push and pull; climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk, see clearly and hear.
- Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat inclement weather & noise.
- Must have the endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard ten (10) or twelve (12) hour day according to the schedule.
- Be on time and ready to work at the start of each standard shift.
- Must always wear personnel protective equipment. (i.e., Hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses, ear protection, fire retardant clothing, as required) and respirators when required.
This position will be active for the duration of the project. Offers may be made to qualifying employees at the completion of the project to be selected for the next project site (location TBD).
This position is designated as a safety sensitive position.
