The primary purpose of this job is to assist in overseeing the accounting activities for various Business Units at Pentagon Federal Credit Union (PenFed) and its affiliates. The accounting role consists of developing new procedures to enhance the efficiency of processes and ensuring compliance with all related regulations, policies, and procedures. This position will manage the day-to-day tasks of these critical accounting functions. Additionally, this position will be a key contact within internal and external auditors and examiners.
Responsibilities

Manages reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts and reviews financial statements and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Company policies and procedures. Establish and execute new accounting processes/estimates for emerging GAAP guidance and new consumer lending products/services. Develop analytics that provide financial and strategic insights and support optimal business decision-making. Stay abreast of a changing external environment (accounting, regulatory, etc.), conducting analysis to identify business risks and opportunities and informing management of potential financial statement impacts. Perform trending analysis and industry/peer group comparisons. Implement financial dashboards and work with business intelligence tools. Research, gather and synthesize data; present conclusions and recommendations to management and/or team members. Evaluate and refine internal processes and implement technical controls and validation processes to ensure data integrity/accuracy. Supervise documentation of projects to meet audit and regulatory requirements. Develop critical relationships with key technical and non-technical stakeholders to gain concurrence, input, execution, and change management decisions. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant industry standards, best practices, business processes and PenFed systems to ensure compliance with standards, policy, procedures, and vendor contractual requirements. Ensure compliance with all internal and external reporting deadlines. Manage and provide necessary support to financial audits including internal audits, external audits, and regulatory exams. Perform ad-hoc reporting and analysis. Prepare, conduct, and review performance appraisals. *This role is responsible for ensuring business continuity.*
Qualifications
Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered. Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is required and/or accounting certification and/or six plus (6+) years of general accounting experience exclusive to large financial institution accounting scenarios. Minimum of eight (8) years’ experience in accounting and financial areas, including general accounting, consolidations, financial GL Closings and US GAAP and regulatory reporting. Minimum of three (3) years of Supervisory/Assistant Manager experience. Familiar with a variety of general accounting, accounts payable, GL system interfaces, budgeting and forecasting analysis and related concepts, practices, and procedures. Supervisory Responsibility This position will directly supervise employees. Licenses and Certifications CPA or candidate preferred. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise. *Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.* Travel Ability to travel to various worksites and be on-call may be required.
