R130602 About the Opportunity JOB SUMMARY The Study Abroad & Exchange (SAE) Advisor provides a full range of study abroad advising services to students enrolled in one or more of Northeastern University’s seven undergraduate Colleges and Schools. Advising services include goal setting, selecting academically appropriate programs, identifying sources of funding, building cross-cultural awareness, health and safety support, and risk mitigation. The SAE Advisor also provides general, frontline study abroad advising to students as needed and supports one or more Assistant/Associate Directors in managing their regional portfolio of partners and programs. The successful candidate will offer input into the admissions process, assist with program marketing and recruitment efforts, and support program enrollment, ensuring students’ compliance with all application requirements. The SAE Advisor organizes and implements materials and events to prepare students for their global experience and to facilitate reflection upon return. The successful candidate may be required to travel to conduct occasional site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences. Some evening and weekend hours will be required to accommodate Northeastern students and faculty. RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Provide students enrolled in one or more of Northeastern University’s undergraduate Colleges and Schools with high-quality support and guidance before, during, and after the study abroad experience. Handle student communication and be able to provide direction and answers, as necessary. Provide basic visa support and guidance for study abroad students. Maintain general knowledge of financial policies and processes. Engage in ongoing communication with students to ensure all application materials are complete. Collaborate closely with academic advisors to ensure program fit and student compliance with college-specific academic requirements. Support one or more Assistant/Associate Directors in managing their regionally defined portfolio of study abroad programs and partners. Assist with partner communication as needed. Support timely solutions to student health and safety issues that arise abroad. Assist with the exchange nomination process. Ensure all program-related information and policy is stored in SharePoint. Process invoices and transcripts in a timely fashion. Ensure programs meet the academic needs of students in assigned College(s), working closely with academic advisors and faculty. Identify programmatic gaps and redundancies, as well as administrative hurdles, and workshop solutions with next-level manager(s) as appropriate. Assist with program assessment initiatives as needed. Assist in the management of the Terra Dotta application system, troubleshooting student issues as they arise and running regular queries and reports to support the Assistant and Associate Directors. Provide on-campus customer service representation on a rotating basis; other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and two years of experience required. Demonstrated knowledge in advising techniques for study abroad programs in a higher education setting preferred. Understanding of the Forum on Education Abroad’s standards and ethics. Strong oral and written communication to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The ability to interact with global program representatives, academic and co-op advisors, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities. Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred. Position Type:
