Purpose/Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Data Analyst provides support for all areas in the Office of Institutional Research, Analytics, and Effectiveness (IRAE) including institutional research, programming, analytical, and reporting services of college data to support strategic planning and data-informed decision making. Under the direction of the Director of Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, provide research, technical, and analytical support for the College, focusing particularly in managing and maintaining databases that support strategic planning, outcomes assessment, evaluation processes, and institutional effectiveness measures. Work with all divisions to define, collect, analyze, maintain, and disseminate official institutional data. To provide official institutional information to both internal and external constituents for the purposes of describing, documenting, and publishing institutional information and measures of effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES
  • Report Writing and Data Analysis: Utilize computer programming languages (preferably SQL) and report writing tools to collect, analyze, organize, and interpret studies, surveys, and statistics. This includes identifying key trends and findings when analyzing survey data and tracking patterns across multiple surveys and years.
  • Use relational databases (MS Access), advanced spreadsheet tools (MS Excel), and word processing software (MS Word) to translate data needs into effective reports.
  • Maintain the data lake in Microsoft Azure by managing reports from MS Access to Azure SQL databases, ensuring accurate and efficient data integration and reporting.
  • Provide technical support for data issues or inquiries related to developed reports.
  • Apply appropriate statistical tools and methods to generate statistics and predictive models.
  • Provide training on how to access and use reports.
  • Maintain documentation on all developed reports.
  • Prepare findings and results in understandable formats relevant to the audience.
  • Assist with coaching departments/units on implementing a sustainable institutional effectiveness cycle for continuous improvement and planning.
  • Assist with identification and compilation of environmental information, business analytics, and external reports to support accreditation and strategic planning processes.
  • Pull, clean, and format large amounts of data from multiple sources.
  • Maintain knowledge of existing internal and external data sources.
  • Assist with accreditation tasks and initiatives.
  • Serve on task forces and project teams.
  • Perform necessary administrative duties to ensure the smooth operations of the IRAE Office.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: (Required/Minimum)
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in social or behavioral sciences, statistics, mathematics, computer sciences, computer information systems, data analytics, or related fields.
Experience: (Required/Minimum)
  • Two years of experience in SQL query language and programming and experience in report development using relational databases such as MS Access.
  • Demonstrated skill in project management, data, analysis, report preparation, and presentation of results.
  • Demonstrated skill in quantitative and qualitative methods, design, and techniques.
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, and integrated database applications.
  • Ability to produce written reports in a clear and effective manner.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and web applications required.
  • Detail orientation and ability to prioritize, organize, and function effectively in a high-pressured, outcomes-driven environment, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly and concisely to both internal and external, non-technical audiences, verbally, graphically, and in written reports, using the most appropriate format.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and understanding and commitment to the concepts of diversity, multiculturalism, and their application in the workplace when working with others.
  • Ability to learn quickly, to work independently as well as collaboratively on a team, and adapt in a fast-paced, highly productive research environment.
  • Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: (Preferred)
  • Completed master's degree from an accredited institution in social or behavioral sciences, mathematics, statistics, computer science, education administration, computer information systems, data analytics, or closely related fields.
  • Strong SQL skills including the ability to create and modify complex SQL scripts.
  • At least three years of experience developing reports and three years of MS Access at a two-year or four-year institution or a statewide post-secondary educational system.
  • At least one year of experience working with Data Warehouse tools such as MS Azure.
  • Knowledge of computer programming languages as well as databases, spreadsheets, and word processing programs.
  • Proficiency in SPSS.
  • Experience working with the COGNOS reporting environment.
  • Experience working with Power BI.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the mission and role of the community college.
  • Experience working with Banner products.
  • Familiarity with visual design concepts for dashboards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems and devise solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks concurrently.
  • Enthusiasm for helping end-users understand and use information.
  • Knowledge of FERPA and experience working with sensitive, confidential data.

PERA is the 21st largest public pension plan in the United States. PERA is a substitute for Social Security; CCD employees do not contribute to Social Security.
