Description
Skilled work in the operation of various road and off-road equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, steer skid loader, bulk trash crane, trencher, compactor, roller, small crane, bucket truck, vacuum truck, dump truck, and/or flatbed truck. The regular work schedule is weekdays from 7:00 am to 3:45 pm. Punctuality and regular attendance are a must.
NOTE: Individuals in this classification may be required to work nights, holidays, and weekends, and immediately following natural disasters.
Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants should completely detail their work experience on the face of the application or risk being disqualified. Selected applicants will be required to show proof of a valid Florida driver's license.
This position is covered under the City of Miami Springs General Pension Plan which requires a mandatory pre-tax contribution, which is 5.88% for fiscal year 2023-24.
Veterans' Preference points are awarded in accordance with F.S. 295.07. If Veterans' Preference is being claimed, it must be indicated on the application form and proper documentation, such as form DD-214 (Member 4), should be uploaded and submitted with the application.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates a variety of equipment and trucks as required by the department. May work in various divisions of operations as assigned.
- Conducts daily equipment/vehicle inspection of tire pressure, hydraulic pressure, air tanks, hydraulic fluids, transmission fluids, power steering, lights, and other critical parts of the equipment/trucks assigned to operate for daily tasks.
- Informs supervisor of any operating deficiencies of trucks and equipment.
- Safely operates all equipment and vehicles. Observes surrounding conditions such as residents, equipment, and property to ensure that the operation of equipment and vehicles is performed in a strictly safe manner.
- Must wear the appropriate safety equipment relative to the type of equipment being operated at all times.
- Maintains radio or other communications with the supervisor and office as required. Follows all radio communication protocols and procedures.
- Maintains and writes a variety of records relating to inspections, daily worksheets, daily work logs and materials issued, etc.
- Interacts with residents in a courteous, polite manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Documented two (2) years of experience in the operation and use of a trash crane, backhoe, front-end loader, or other similar heavy equipment.
- Valid Florida CDL license with a good driving record. CDL license must be Class B with Air Brake Endorsement or higher.
- Must have a Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector Certificate or be able to obtain the Certificate within six months of the hiring date.
- Must be punctual and reliable.
