Description

The purpose of this class is responsible for the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance of county streets, drainage systems, beaches, and related infrastructure.
Job Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
  • Operates and maintains road paving construction equipment including rollers, loaders, tractors, dump trucks, backhoes, and water trucks.
  • Patches roadways, cuts brush, and picks up and disposes of trash and brush.
  • Loads and unloads large amounts and weights of materials and debris to and from trucks.
  • Drives a medium sized truck to transport personnel, supplies, and materials.
  • May flag traffic as needed.
  • May perform housekeeping and facilities maintenance functions.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Requires six months of experience in construction, maintenance or repairs of roadways, bridges, and operating heavy and light construction equipment or closely related experience.

The work is typically performed sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects.
The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 2 Flood / 3 FM Lateral Roads / 3 Beach

Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
