Title: Piano Accompanist FY2425_104 Reports to: Choir Teacher and/or Building Principal School/Building: Middle School Shift: 3 hours per school day – 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. May require attending special events in the evening or weekends as scheduled. Hourly Wage: $17.56/hour Job hours: 16 per week a month leading up to the concert. ( This is two days in the classroom all day per week the month leading up to the concert.) 6 concerts per year ( 3 are 5th/6th grade and 3 are 7th/8th grade; these concerts happen on the same evening making it 3 nights needed through out the year.) Purpose Provides piano accompaniment for choral groups, soloists, recitals, concerts, and other special events as needed/scheduled. Essential Job Duties Plays accompaniment at sight for designated classes, choral groups, and other performances. Assists students or instructors in planning, reviewing, and selecting music suitable to various occasions. May adapt themes to the piano from recorded music. May accompany students in performances. Performs related duties as assigned. Knowledge Skills Abilities Knowledge of advanced piano playing. Knowledge of music theory, harmony, rhythm, composition, and transposition. Knowledge of the meaning of musical terms, signs, and abbreviations. Knowledge of vocal techniques. Ability to play at sight, with accuracy and feeling. Ability to memorize, improvise, adapt and transpose music. Ability to coach students individually or in small groups to improve vocal and/or instrumental skills. Ability to follow a soloist or a conductor in performing a musical score. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to read, write and speak English fluently. Ability to independently prioritize work and adjust time schedule. Ability to adapt to changing work priorities. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups, students, parents, staff and establish and maintain effective relationships. Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion related to employment and student matters. Ability to manage time and responsibilities and adapt to changing work priorities. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District requirements and Board policies. Skill in adhering to safety practices. Required Qualifications Any combination of training, education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school. Demonstrated knowledge of singing techniques. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with the conductor. Demonstrated ability to site read music. Preferred Qualifications Successful experience working with Middle School Students. Necessary special requirements: Montana Driver’s license or the ability to obtain license within three months of hire date. \ Equipment: Piano Physical and Mental Demands and Work Hazards Regularly works inside with minimal temperature variations. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. Regularly required to sit, walk and stand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Significant fine finger dexterity. Frequently involved in social interactions which require oral and written communications and ability to hear conversations in quiet to moderate environments. Guidance and reinforcement are usually available. The employee frequently works within time constraints and must maintain attentiveness intensity. Frequently involved in interactions which require oral and written communications. Exercises flexibility and the ability to shift from one task to another. Occasional travel/mobility between schools may be required. Effective hearing and speech abilities. Work area is generally a hazard free environment. Required to be able to hear conversations in loud and quiet environments. Demonstrates regular attendance performing duties as described. Reports to work fit for duty with characteristics inherent to the position.
